I think you are too young to have it. Lots of things can bring on memory lapses, stress, lack of sleep, medication.
Tell your doctor you want to see a specialist.

I think of often as I get older . my moms side of the family all had it . grandma mom my two aunts and uncle all suffered to the end with it along with heart problems got the rest
cancer took out all most my dads side of the family including my brother and one of sisters has maybe a week two at the most .
I seen a interview with a doc once he said as we get older our memory slips and misses details some times just normal part of getting old then he added now if you loose you car keys and find you put them in the freezer then you might want to be checked out
its easy to worry about such things but best to enjoy that were well and not waste time thinking of what may come
as a pie chart on my chiropractor's office wall all broke down by % of how people die across the bottom it had
no matter what none of us are going to make it out alive

It may very well be related to your pain medication. My Wife as I have discussed several times has been on Oxycontin about 10 years.. in the last 2 she has been experiencing very similar symptoms.. they have tested her also and can not find anything.. Finally her pain management DR, looked at all her meds combined , since they can not take her off oxy they changed her thyroid and hormones and it has greatly helped

When a person doesn't know they have a memory problem that's when it's not good. If you're aware of it then most likely it's medications or something else.

I had a 3 month time frame where i was getting forgetful, lost and out of sorts. About a year back.

Came down to my Cholesterol and Blood pressure medicine was causing the problem.
Cholesterol medication can cause lots of strange side affects, And I only take it because have Diabetes, and Doc says it good for me.??

Changed one and dropped to lower dose on the other and took a few weeks but all better.

The screening test your doctor gave you works well to rule out Azheimers & Lewy Body Disease. If you haven't seen a neurologist, this might be a good time; they are usually good at finding obscure problems that affect the brain.

The guys are right, drug interactions are often the cause of new mental problems.

A good history is always important in diagnosing problems, but the system rushes doctors through exams.

Those of us who grew up in older houses often were exposed to lead paint when we were young. Lead paint wasn't outlawed until 1978. Your "brain freeze" incident makes me want to rule that out. I have found ways to compensate for my shortcomings.

I know how you feel Dave. My memory is getting so bad that my wife told me to wrap my own Christmas presents this year.

I "Mom" sat for a few hours a day for several days for a 83 year old neighbor last week. She is fine physically; walks her little dog, can do the stairs. She will ask the same question many times - did I feed the dog, when is my son coming home, what day is this. I just smile and answer every time.

I think she takes Prevagen?. I'd rather see her eat more eggs and get on some supplements from Dr. Joel Wallach outfit.

I forget why I'm looking for something and then I forget what I'm looking for. I lay things down and lose them in plain sight. I have to write a list of anything I don't want to forget and hope I don't lose the list. There are days of absolute brilliance and days of WTH is going on.
I went to the Dr. yesterday to get my scripts renewed and he was asking what I was doing and how things were going. After I told him, he commented that most men my age were "slowing down" which it seemed I wasn't.

It sounds like at least part of your problem may be short term memory loss.

Here's a link that discusses various causes of short term memory issues.

I nearly cried the first time I could not remember my wife's phone number. I called several numbers that I could remember but none were her.

I can't remember where the bathroom is. My wife says if I pee in the closet one more time she is going to tell me it is deer season (I can't remember) and when I go hunting she is going to lock me out of the house. (This is her joke)

I think varying degrees of memory loss is something we all will have to deal with as we age.

My mother had alzheimers before she passed - she didn't know me.

My 84- year old aunt has Alzheimers and we deal with it. Sometimes she thinks I'm her long dead husband. When she knows me, my wife is Patty or Mary. She keeps asking the same questions over and over. She adjusts all her clocks to different times because she can't remember how to adjust them , then complains her clocks are defective and she needs new ones. She can't remember how to operate the stove or micro-wave or dial the phone...even after I made large instruction cards and taped them on each appliance.
A trip to the grocery store is an all day adventure. She inspected a grapefruit closely for several minutes before putting it down then said, "I don't know what that is."
She refuses to take her meds, well certain meds, at certain times. She says they make her hurt. Her memory med, Namenda, helps a lot when we can get her to take it.
The one thing that bothers me most is she has open sores on her scalp. I suspected skin cancer so I pointed it out to her doctor. My aunt explained that bugs laid eggs in her scalp and they hatch into worms that grow into bugs. So she scratches them out.

So I figure I can live with a little memory loss.

My Dad has dementia and is in a Memory Care ALF. There is a guy in there who is 48 y/o.

Dave I would go to a Geriatrics DR and have them look at your meds and see if anything is messing with your head. Even though my Dad is crazy with dementia his meds were making it even worse. Once we got them straightened out he was much better.

If you realize you have a problem I doubt you have dementia.
