last chance......
our muzzleloading season starts tomorrow, last chance this year to deer hunt. gotta get a little meat in freezer so first unlucky deer to get close in morning will become hamburger, will wait for horns on second one, we are allowed 2 of either sex. my hip doesn't have much more than a few day in it anyway, so figure by wedsnday or thursday I will be done in, in our hunting club of about 30 guys only one got a buck, we usually get 8-10 every year, we have em on cameras just never saw em in the woods where we could get a good enough shot. timing is just about right for em to come back in the second rut next week so hoping that will bring the big boys out as there aren't as many does for the second time around. weather mid 30's all week so we should have good frost, light snow each morning. hoping my luck at poker table is better than my luck has been hunting.......

Today is our last day of Muzzle loading deer season. I shot my 2nd deer of the season this morning at the break of daylight. A spike horn buck. Been out everyday since the 8th of December (muzzle loading season) and this was the first deer I've seen. A bit on the small side but should be some tender venison!
Good luck to you hillbillie! What kind of M\L rifle are you using?0 -

between leased land and private land we are allowed to hunt close to 1100 acres.....shootuadeal wrote:hillbille wrote:our muzzleloading season starts tomorrow, last chance this year to deer hunt. gotta get a little meat in freezer so first unlucky deer to get close in morning will become hamburger, will wait for horns on second one, we are allowed 2 of either sex. my hip doesn't have much more than a few day in it anyway, so figure by wedsnday or thursday I will be done in, in our hunting club of about 30 guys only one got a buck, we usually get 8-10 every year, we have em on cameras just never saw em in the woods where we could get a good enough shot. timing is just about right for em to come back in the second rut next week so hoping that will bring the big boys out as there aren't as many does for the second time around. weather mid 30's all week so we should have good frost, light snow each morning. hoping my luck at poker table is better than my luck has been hunting.......

and it still wasn't enough, I got one doe this morning and a cousin got a 9 pt and that was it for the week, sitting here watching pictures off game camera, and had 5-8 deer eating each time it went off we never saw them. we didn't do any still hunting this week we just drove to each other, the 9pt was the only buck any of us saw all week. I had a little 5pt on camera he was coming in 3:30 to 4:30 each day on thursday he only had one horn had lost the right antler. this got me wondering if they are losing them early and maybe thats why we didn't see any bucks?????
using a Knight KRB7 I think it is, its an inline rolling block w/scope I can't see the open iron sights anymore have to use scope or reddot now. thats why I won't be gone on the primative season we have in couple weeks am afraid I would just wound one and have to chase it, and I just don't feel right if I know I can't make a good kill shot on one.0 -
well maybe not as many,or as big as hoping for, but,,,sounds like a good safe ,fun, successful hunt anyways. Good job. And I fully understand old eyes. 0 -
Good luck on getting that freezer filler... 0 -
Congrats on the doe. What part of WV are you hunting? My son and I had good luck during rifle in Upshur Co. We both took spikes opening morning, then I tagged out with an eight pt. on Tuesday morning. Back in Mingo now trying to finish up on one of these big bow only bucks. 0 -

Those bow only counties produce some magnificent bucks. The terrain ain't for the for the faint of heart. Good luck.0
