    My Dad was with the 173rd ABN in Vietnam.

    WWII, and Korea before that.

    Love and miss you Dad.





    Like "Saving Private Ryan," I cry every time I watch this movie.

    Not ashamed to admit it either.

    This is one of the best war movies ever made, Gibson was outstanding as was all of the actors in the film.
    The realism of this movie puts you right in the middle of the war.

    Sam Elliott, in this role was the epitome of my Dad. 32 year Lifer ABN, CSM. 101st, 82nd, 173rd. WWII, Korea, Vietnam. A real hard A$$.

    A friend of mine who lives here in Southport was flying one of those medavac choppers picking those guys up. Left the Army, joined the Marines and ended up flying three presidents around on Marine One. Last time he was here in my office about a month a go we talked for about an hour. Whenever he has time to talk I make sure I have time to listen.

    As a kid in high school a majority of my friends were 40-50 years older than I. That's one thing I'm damn glad I learned at an early age.

    No matter how many times I hear this, there's something about those bagpipes, with the lyrics added in, that's just plain haunting.
    (Never forget these battles. Note: The casualty rate after X-Ray was even higher during ambushes encountered on their long walk out.)
