Self Checkout pissed me off
I was at Lowes and was buying several items, some rather expensive, I also picked up some gift cards for some of my clients for Christmas gifts.
NO human checkers were available so you have to use the self check out. Scanned the first card and screeching halt, need a human. Human comes up (I think she was a human) and says "You can't use self checkout to buy gift cards" Well guess what dumb ass tell your manager I will go spend my money at the store across the street and since you have no human check outs open I guess you may as well quit selling gift cards. Damn that pisses me off. Stores are so intent on saving labor costs they forget about customer service.

don't use em...besides most have the INVISIBLE no marked slot for a credit card that even merlin the magician could not find... 0 -
I was in WM last week (I know, I know), and demanded loudly that they open some check out lanes or THEY could put all the stuff in my cart back on the shelves. I had about $75 worth of items. They managed to open 2 lanes with checkers, and I was thanked by two little old ladies! I am now wondering what they would do if, say, 10 or 12 of us ran around the store filling our carts full of merchandise (no perishables), and just walked out, leaving the carts scattered all over the store? :twisted: 0 -
I hate those damned self-checkout things for ONE reason: If I'm doing this extra work, WHERE IS MY DISCOUNT?
I don't mind the "tech" part of it, they are easy to use, but I know many people are intimidated by them.
About 50% of the time when I'm at Sam's Club or Home Depot, I see people not scanning something. These companies are too stupid to figure out they are losing their butt with these stupid things! Some places here have pulled them out already.

I hardly ever use those things, but I noticed at Home Depot there weren't options to do anything but self checkout last time I was there.
My daughter loves using those silly things because she thinks she is faster than the idiots that usually check you out and she likes to pack her own bags, double bagging things and sorting things like she likes. So, the one time I went grocery shopping with her I was coaxed into using one of those ordeals.......it caused me to shoplift items that I forgot were on the bottom rack of my buggy. I didn't realize until I got home. Grocery shopping with my daughter is like a boot camp type experience....rush rush rush....what are you LOOKING at....MOOOOOOVVVVEEE. I don't know why she is that way, but it makes the trip a lot cheaper.0 -
my wife sure likes them me not so much
and I have been told to shut up ( by the wife ) many times in the stores when I comment on how they are taking away some ones job

I picked up a three dollar item at Home Despot, no price tag, no label on the bin, walked up to the customer service counter for a price check and was studiously ignored for nearly half an hour. I then noticed a store detective had been trailing me the whole time. Then I was forced to use self-checkout because there were no open checkout lanes. I guess it all makes sense to somebody, darned if it strikes me as being a good policy.
Our Home Despot has a drive through warehouse for large items. Every time I drove through and picked up a trailer load of stuff they insisted on searching my Van at checkout. I wrote them a half dozen nastygrams saying I resented being unlawfully searched. Their answer was it is policy. I asked who wrote the policy and they gave me a name. I said thank you, I refuse to buy anything else at your store until you let me search the policy writers (bosses) trunk. About twice a year I write them an E-mail saying I missed shopping at their store and when can I make an appointment to search the bosses trunk, I also send them a list of building materials I purchased at another building supply for that six month period. I buy a lot of building supplies.0 -
I read an article that quoted someone saying "If you pay for more than half your stuff at self checkout your and idiot" . Now I don't agree with that statement but apparently their is a lot of information saying that even people who would not normally steal are tempted to run an item past the checker. Not sure how that is accomplished as it seems the table weighs the items but as I said I have read a lot about what stores are now calling "shrinkage" versus shop lifting LOL 0 -
I do not use them and have left a cart full of groceries at the local Meijers store because they did not open a check out lane. I had about $250 worth of groceries in my cart. They had self check out open. I went to the first check out lane and waited as I had done before when shopping at that time. I was blatantly ignored by two employees. After a few minutes I walk out after looking at the two employees and calmly telling them, " when you're putting this stuff back remember you ignored me". 0 -
girls at lowes know me now, I will not use the self checkout, I will go to the service desk and ask them to check me out, if they refuse, I will ask for manager to do it instead. I was at wallyworld one morning and there were about 5 of us in line and one register open, the manager was having a rah-rah meeting with about 20 or so employees at the front of the registers, after standing for over 10 minutes I pushed my buggy over towards him and said, here you have plenty of folks to put my things back since you would rather talk than open a register, a couple employees were almost trying to keep from laughing and he wouldn't even answer me, just turned and kept on talking, I think the least he could have done was had the meeting in back room off sales floor, especially when they were so busy........ 0 -

I kind of like the self checkout. I get the whole doing a job that you don't get paid for deal. It would be nice to get a discount maybe 2% or something to at least acknowledge you doing your own check out or maybe a coupon for 2% off your next purchase.
I watched a cashier try to make change the other day. Her register went out and could not do the math for her(She was about 17 or 18). An older lady handed her a $20 for a purchase of $12.42. She could not figure out the amount of change to give the lady back. It was really sad watching her get more and more confused.
I told her you owe her $7.58, but she called the manager over who told her the same thing.
If I was the manager I would have fired her on the spot or moved her to the back sorting produce.
I don't like giving someone a gift card because I am assuming that is what they want and they are going to shop where I want them to. I would rather just give them cash and I would rather get cash, that way I can do with it what I want..............Just my opinion.0
