Not only too many bowls, but if you happen to be a fan of a specific bowl game, it is hard to keep it straight because the name changes with the sponsor.

Mobile Alabama Bowl became the GMAC Bowl, then the GoDaddy Bowl, before being branded as the Dollar General Bowl. When Dollar General stopped writing checks, it was announced a few weeks ago that it is now the LendingTree Bowl. That's good news for Louisiana and Miami of Ohio, because they want their appearance money.

One of the things I fail to get my arms around are the small schools that have 6 wins against other small schools going to a bowl instead of better teams from larger conferences the didn't get the 6 wins due to a tougher schedule. You know the first team out in the SEC, B1G, Big 12 or the other large conferences would easily win a large number of the teams that are going to bowls.

And this is not sour grapes since the Boilers did not make a bowl game this year. I have always had an issue with this concept and the same with the NCAA basketball tournament.

Having grown up during a time (40's and 50's) when there was but five (Rose, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, and Sun) to ten (+Tangerine, Bluebonnet, and Liberty), bowl games. I kind of welcomed the early expansion of them, but not so much the number we have today...but I have come to enjoy watching most of them. It does not bother me so much anymore that a school might be from a power 5 conference or not, but I certainly am not ready to embrace the cellar dwellers of any conference getting in.
