Imagine being on vacation and you visit
A Volcano and it erupts while you are there.
That happened on White Island off the coast of New Zealand. People were in the crater when it went off. 5 dead and many missing.
That would be very frickin scary

Desperate efforts are underway to locate any additional survivors of a deadly volcanic eruption on New Zealand's White Island Monday, which killed at least five people and injured at least a dozen more.
The eruption took place with little warning Monday afternoon local time while dozens of tourists from cruise ship Ovation of the Seas were touring the volcano.
Shocking footage from tourists on nearby boats were posted on social media, which showed giant plumes of thick black smoke rising from the site.
According to a statement by New Zealand Police, there were "no signs of life" on the island late Monday night, after a number of aerial reconnaissance flights over White Island.

I remember MT St. Hellens that was scary and I was in GA
My 1st Duty station was Ft Lewis WA(I was there for 9 years) and when I went through RIP(Ranger Indoctrination Program) in 1982 we had to pull Volcano watch.
I remember we flew over it in a CH-47 at about 9k feet around 1985 and it was still all jacked up with trees down everywhere and the lake was still full of mud. When we trained in Yakima the dust was still on the ground.
To me Volcano's are scary0 -

I was Stationed at Lowry AFB (Denver, CO.) for 6mo. of AIT. (All Services went there for Photo MOS.) when Mt. St. Helens blew. (1980) It got dark. Our vehicles were covered with about 1/4" ash every morning.
Later on, (in about 1987) I was sent by my Co. on a 2 week excursion to climb Mt. Rainier. We could see the devastation from a long way off through binocs. Would have been crazy to have been up on Rainier, when Mt. St. Helens blew, and observed it.0 -
Now it looks like the death toll is over 30 people, Prayers and positive vibes sent to their families.
It looks like in response to this deadly eruption New Zealand will ban volcano's and order all to be turned in to the government. :shock:0 -

Typical nanny state response.

Well, I've gone into volcano craters. But, not an active volcano! For crying out loud, White Island has been continuously active for 150,000 years! I don't mind a little adrenaline once in a while, but active volcanoes can go off any time.
Don't worry about Royal Caribbean; their lawyers make sure everyone on an excursion signs a release. We might know the body count by tomorrow; I will not be surprised if it's > 50. Sad, very sad.

Those releases will be laughed at in civil court. Victims' relatives will get millions from Royal Caribbean, the tour company, and the goobermint of New Zealand. Especially in light of the fact that many of those bodies will never be found, and the families can rightfully claim extreme emotional distress. 0
