    I've put both on my watch list. Are those extra holes in the left side of the receiver on the 39?

    The holes are factory peep holes. The top one looks at the end of the bolt by the extractor, so you can tell if there is one in the chamber. The other one looks into the magazine tube. If there is a shell in there you will see the brass, otherwise it will be red showing the mag tube plunger.

    Thanks, I guess I'm more familiar with the older ones. We have a couple of 39's in the family.
