Anyone make one? Wife needs a short length of pull 12.5. Might have to cut a wood stock .

    Everywhere... I don't want a .243.. The 25/06 is far superior. I shoot the quarter bore in a Rem 700 long range.

    I know. It's probably cheaper to cut one down but I wonder if any of the stock making companies make an after market stock that would work for her.

    That or I will just order the action and buy an aftermarket stock. Cannot cut a synthetic. Hollow out with mounts for recoil pad .

    You might find a used one on the auction side. Surely someone else has needed one. Finding one for sale would be hit or miss but one may pop up.

    I can't remember what company but someone was marketing rifles with different length stock inserts recently.

    Edit: I think it was Savage.

    I picked up a Stevens 200 25-06 recently on the cheap. Not expensive rifles. Had gray synthetic stock with 13 inch lop I believe.

    Not too hard to alter a synthetic stock.
    I've cut down Synthetic stock. Yes they are hollow inside . Fill with some expanding foam and then Epoxy on a pad to stock.

    I'm 6'4; but like to crawl up on the stock. all my stocks are 12.5 to 13"

    25/06 has a pretty good punch on both ends. Short and light gun will kick pretty hard even more.
    243 is fine ladies or youth gun. And with today's modern ammo a deer hit with a 243 in the correct place is DRT.

    This isn't a .243 thread. that rd is out... DRT. The gun will have a wood stock.. and weigh normal weight minus 1- 1.5" on the length of pull. A standard 700 Remington has a 13.5 LOP. Was going to do a .308 with reduced loads which equal a 25/06 full house loads. Recoil is mild.

    Uh.. .308 has a .308 projectile.. you can get the same projectile in a reduced power load for less recoil.

    Okay, if you're not dead set on a 25-06 you may consider a 7mm-08. It puts a lot of energy out the front end when compared to the recoil on the back end. No need for reduced loads. When I was looking for a rifle for my sister and researched recoil versus energy for standard chamberings the 7mm-08 stood out to me as the best choice. 140gr pill at 2800fps with a little over 2400 ft pounds of energy all with only 17 to 18 ft pounds of recoil in a light weight gun and as low as 13 ft pounds in a heavy gun.

    The accutrigger is actually a pretty decent trigger and the gun is chambered in the 25-06. But it doesn't matter you don't want a synthetic stock and are looking for a 700.

    Edit: There is about a 25% difference in recoil between the .308 with 150gr bullet and the 7mm-08 with a 140gr bullet. The chart you link doesn't reflect that, I don't know why.

    Remington makes what you want in .308 and 7mm-08. But the 700 compact has a synthetic stock, however the model 7 comes with a wood stock.

    I agree with Scout5, I would look for a used older Remington Model 7 in 7mm-08 or 308. A short action will be easier to operate for a smaller woman. The 7mm-08 is a really good round.

    How about a contender in 7x30 Waters or 30 wcf with a 16" barrel and a full stock. They are light, short and have a great trigger.

    Going only to buy her a 25/06. Varmits or Deer , Elk it does it all. Little recoil, however it takes a 24" barrel at least to make it work well. I will buy a wood stock version and cut it down. 25/06 is one of the most unlooked at caliber out there. All the new fangled cartridges but going with the old 06 since it has never let me down.

    I know you and her plan to retire after this school year. You are lucky to have a wife that will hunt with you. The 25-06 is a good all around cartridge. I don't own one only because I have it all covered with other rifles. When I was looking at just having one rifle the 25-06 was very high on the list. If she shoots yours well and likes the cartridge you should most definitely get her one that fits her. A happy wife a happy life.

    I'm a good shot but not a great shot. I can shoot angle of deer all day long. About 10 years ago I bought a Savage 16 with the accu trigger, accu stock and accu barrel. First trip to the range with my own Barnes bullet reloads to sight in the new scope I got to put on the rifle I shot under 1/2 inch for my first 3 shots. Second 3 shots went under 1/2 inch. Third 3 shot group was even better!!

    I could not believe it! I have never shot that good with any other rifle in my life!! I have never shot a group bigger than 3/4 inch with that Savage. Every Savage I have ever owned has shot under an inch. (Sometimes not much under an inch.)

    If it was me I would buy a Savage and do a lot of smiling!!

    It's pennies a day to have a nice rifle. I have no 25 cal stuff. The 257 Roberts AI according to PO himself was the most efficient of all the AI cartridges.

    I like 6.5 and 7mm and would lean towards a .308 case base, because they will fit in a short action. Maybe a thumb hole wood stock to help deal with recoil.

    Not many if any company's make a "Youth" rifle with a long action and a 24" barrel.

    Your going to have to either cut the existing gun stock down or get an aftermarket stock, cut it and replace the original.

    Or get the parts and have a gunsmith build you a gun.

    Buy a Savage long action in 25/06. Buy a long action wood take-off stock and cut it to fit. Problem solved along with the problem that shows up when the cut off stock becomes too short.
