Thanks for asking, Ken. I am doing well.
Have been through this a few times in the past, and frankly the toughest part is deciding to pull the trigger, so to speak.
A vet is coming to the house so the little guy is as comfortable as is possible.
He has had a great life, and was very lucky that we were his owners. We have between $ 35,000.00 and $ 40,000.00 into his health care over the years, and had he been with a family that could not afford to make him whole, would have been put down 7 or 8 years ago.
It has been a win for all of us, and while he leaves a little Brian-shaped hole in my heart, it is time to move on.

So Sorry. Having the vet come out to do it was the best money I?ve ever spent. I dreaded the thought of driving home with my Slick in the back. He never like to ride anyway.
The lady vet took her time and made him comfortable then stayed around and talked for a while.
I still get teary-eyed thinking about it.0 -

The vet showed up last night and immediately upon seeing Brian, she burst out in tears.
I had been doing well up to that point. I mentioned that she was not supposed to cry, that it was our job, and she told the wife and I that she normally does not, but that Brian was very special. Had to put my man card away for a while.
I kissed him on top of his head when they administered the lethal dose and said 'Goodbye my friend'.
Left him with my wife, and out of the blue, 'Seasons in the Sun' was playing in my head.

It's tough to do Don, but as responsible pet owners we take that on that responsibility until the end. I just did the same thing 2 months ago, and still shed a few tears thinking about it. I know it hurts, but you should be proud about the care and attention that you gave him with the issues he had. I am sure that he is very thankful for having an owner who cared so much for him. I somehow think that the man upstairs pairs needy dogs with good people like you so that each side gets the most out of life. Stay strong, and prayers sent. 0 -
Really don't mean to make a big deal of this.
Most of us have gone through it and will go through it again.
I am thinking of calling the same vet when its time to punch my own clock.

My wife and I lost our little Max( Toy Terrior) after 15 years and for 5 years we searched for another like him. Each time I brought my wife home empty handed in tears because it was just to painful. Finally one morning I got up at about 5am and drove around 150 miles to other side of Scranton, Pa. and picked up little Willie. He is eight years old now and the center of all attention.
My Vet donated his fee to the Baker Institute for Animal Health at Cornell University. They do research on diseases that affect dogs of all breeds.

Yes, about everyone here has been through it but it doesn't make it any easier. Been closer to a couple of my dogs than some relatives, close ones. They were always there when I needed it, they were not. if you don't understand that well, that's ok. :arrow:0 -
