Just completed my first ever stint on jury duty
Happy to fulfill my civic duty. But, very boring

    I always thought if it ever came down to it I'd ask for a bench trial rather than a jury. Takes a lot of faith to put your future in the hands of 12 people who couldn't get out of jury duty.

    I'd be all for the jury being made up of people who are on unemployment, welfare, food stamps, etc.

    Always felt that serving was part of being a good citizen. If I was facing a trial I would want good people with decent intelligence on the jury . Kind of like voting .... if you don?t vote you have no right to complain about who got elected and what they fo in office . If you don?t serve when picked then don?t go complaining when an obvious travesty of justice occurs and a scumbag is set free or a innocent person is convicted.

    I agree with you and Austin. I've never tried to get out of it when I've been called.

    Served on a sequesterd jury once for a murder trial. Drug dealer tried to rob a couple in a car with a shotgun. The dealer got scared and blew off an 18 year old girls face, reached across her body and took $5.00 from her purse.

    He got life in prison, but also died there after about 10 years.

    The jury took our job very serious.

    I was called up for Grand Jury back in the 80's. Several boring cases and even a case of possible beating by a cop. He supposedly stopped behind a church and beat the perp up before he took him to jail. All we had to do was recommend whether or not the case should go to trial. We only met one day a month for 3 months and got $10 for the privilege. I would do it again if asked.

    In my 34 years living here, I was called only once, and had to decline because I was booked for a cruise that week. I'd be entirely willing to serve.

    I did jury duty this past spring. I was excited, and actually got picked to sit on the jury.

    Don?t remember what I got paid, but, my employer paid me my normal pay for 8 hrs a day, to do jury duty.

    I work 10.5 hr days, but I was more than good with it.

    I just had to sign the check over to my employer and give it to them when it arrived a couple weeks later.

    I was honored to be called to jury duty one time about 40 years ago. It was a murder trial and there were maybe 50 people called so the attorneys could select 12 to sit on the jury. The 12 were approved by both lawyers before I was called on from the gallery so didn't have to serve but would have liked to.

    Just like voting, serving in the military, or other civic duty, it's part of being an American citizen and preserving OUR individual rights as Americans.

    I recall an incident about 8 - 10 years ago, and business person in town was called for jury duty. He didn't show up and the judge issued a warrant and the cops physically brought him before the judge. He claimed he was to business with his business to serve. Don't recall his punishment but about 3 -4 years later, he ran for city commissioner and was elected. How bad is that :?:

    I've been summoned 4 times. After the sequestering of all the potential candidates I've always even dismissed :o For some reason the defense attorneys evidently didn't want me on the jury :cry:

    The first murder trial I was called for was a death penalty case & they called what looked like 200 people. We had to fill out a long questionnaire & then come back quite some time later. I was one of the first 12 jurors called & survived a large number of challenges . Finally the prosecutor said he was satisfied & then the defense attorney challenged a juror. I was then SHOCKED to be kicked off by the prosecutor. I really wanted that trial as it was supposed to last perhaps as long as five months (five counts of murder & rape) & the Post Office would pay me for the entire time.
    A woman on my route was on the panel & she told me they found him guilty of four & recommended death. Turns out he didn't last too long & died in prison.
    I did get another murder trial but I was already retired by then & it only lasted a month.

    I moved to Indy in 1962 and still live in the area. I've never been called. Someone ratted me out! :lol:

    A wallet and chain wearing - bobs big boy haircut lesbians defense attorney said I was a misogynistic ethnically biased non binary Roman Catholic gun owning member of the male patriarchy and used a preemptive challenge to bounce me...

    Said I did not qualify to be on a jury of her peers...

    I have always remembered that lovely turn of phrase...
