thoughts on this Rem 700....

Been wanting a 221 fireball for sometime now, but can't decide which model to get. Thinking about a Remington 700, so I check them now and then to see what's up for sale. Came across this today. Obviously the gun has been re barreled, so how does a person know the date of the receiver w/o a proper barrel date code? I also don't believe they made a stainless receiver in 1960...Would be a neat gun to have though.. :D

    Doesn't the S prefix on the receiver mean 1998 ?

    That is a Remington Light Varmint Stainless Synthetic. (LVSS) probably made in the late 90s early 2000s

    Remington made the 700 in 221 fireball.

    I had a CZ in that caliber and it was a fun gun, accurate and deadly on smaller varmints. Due to the higher operation pressure the 221 will shoot right along with the 222.

    That would be a great gun to have if you want a 221.

    I personally think that is a bit much for the gun though. It has a blind magazine.

    Well why not bid on his M1 garand manufactured in 1970...

    I have one in 223 Remington and it's a solid shooter. I really don't know what the used marking is bringing but a 800buck starting bid seems high.

    221's seem to be the new craze. You can't hardly touch a Remington 700 for under a grand...

    If the receiver is a 1960 version like the seller states, then it must be re barreled since they didn't make those in 1960. RobOz called it correctly.

    I don't think the A1960 at the start of his description refers to the date of the gun , If you look at his other auction , he has that type of number at the start of all his descriptions and most of them don't fit the gun,

    Look at their auctions...it's their way of keeping track. Kind of like a SKU or product number. That seller is not misrepresenting.

    Model 700 came out in 1962...yes I looked it up but I got more than a few.

    This 700 is not from the 60's or 70's. SS barrels but no SS actions in the 60's. The SS barrels in the 60's were blue with the exception of 40X's. Much later and I would bet the farm the barrel is original to gun. Agree from the 80's or later. Slip a Jewel trigger in it and you won't go wrong.
    I picked (stole) at a auction a 700 CDL in 204 Ruger, no one bid on it, I guess the caliber spooked them away. Appears to be mint and original and it will shoot one ragged hole at 100 yards with Hornady superformace 32 grain ammo. Sometimes it is hard to beat a factory gun and factory ammo.

    Toad- l have one of these 221Furball 700LVSF rifles... My very favourite 700... lt'll shoot 35gr Bergers @3500fps 0r 60gr SP Hornadys @2800... lt'll kill a deer graveyard DEAD with a 60gr Nosler Partition too.. Will shoot any weight boolit 35-60gr inside a half inch @100yds ina 3 shot group :o l got mine of GunBroken maybe 10ys ago... Gun has two weaknesses. Fact Rem trigger and bubble gum recoil pad. Kenny Jarrett took care of both problems :D Twas my main Prairie Dog gun for a New Mexico shoot last year... 221FireBall is the parent case for the .223/5.56Remington. NOT the 222 Remington. 221FB came out 2 yrs BEFORE the 223REM. 221 & 223 share the same neck length of .203''. 222 Rem neck length is .270''..... That's a good price...
