Marc1301 - CPAP/BPAP info.
I got my Hospital/Sleep Study Center to E-mail me in a PDF file, my CPAP prescripton. (After I explained my situation.) They were very sympathetic/conciliatory.
I will try and order the machine you suggested direct, and have my Insurance billed.

As long as your scrip calls for a fixed pressure (ie, 8cm/h2o) that ResMed machine on sale is a great buy. If you need a Min/Max type of setup, you need an Autoset.
You will have to pay out of pocket, but they have all of the forms for you to file with your insurance company if you go that way.
Personally I would speak directly with your insurance company regarding this before going forward. Some of them want you to 'rent' one from a DME provider first, and only after you have shown compliance will they purchase the machine outright.
I didn't want to jump through the insurance hoops any longer, and decided to purchase my own. Each situation is different of course, but worse case you have a good machine and mask to start using right away with very little out of pocket, in case you can't collect.
Ultimately your choice, but I thought of you when I saw that Black Friday sale. Good luck!0 -

Hey Marc1301 - I went to web site you linked and set up my order on the two items you listed this am. (CPAP machine and Mask bundle.)
Only to open my PDF file on my actual prescription, and learn that I required a BPAP. :?
Went back online, they jump Way up in price. Ordered the lowest cost of the highest rated machines. $875 less 15% for Black Friday deal. So $743 for the machine that would fit my prescription.
They actually took 15% off my entire order, even for the items that were already on sale/drastically reduced. The Mask bundle was backordered, so I added a low cost ($58 after discount) highly rated mask for the interim, so at least I could get going until the B/O arrives. (Dec. 2nd)
Everything I needed and some extras came to $933.
I appreciate your link to this Co. I was impressed with their Cust/Serv. When I called once they opened @ Central standard time, to cancel my first order, confirm they got my PDF file etc. They were Extremely helpfull in every respect. Applied discounts that really did not begin until tommorrow, etc. Saved me a fair amount of $$.

My knee is doing so much better than I anticipated it at this point, I am ecstatic.
I believe I will be able to avoid Surgery. When brace is off (last two nights) I seem to get a fairly good range of (painful) range of motion. (In bed, no weight on it.) I am still religiously wearing the anke to groin immobilizing brace as to not re-injure it in its weakened/injured state.
I am actually somewhat thrilled thus far. The swelling has gone way down. I am quite happy with it. I seem to have dodged a big .50BMG round.0 -

Did you check out Ricci's auction? He has a S&W M59 9mm that is going cheap right now. I remember you saying you have a Marlin Camp 9. If you need a pistol to go with it I think the m59 mags work in the Marlin.

don't overlook the "consumables" -- I have to replace the cushion on my CPAP almost monthly -- I notice a big improvement when I change one that's been used too long even if it looks and feels good it has quit providing a good seal.

If you are starting with a BiPap, you must need a really high pressure to keep your AHI down. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the machine it appears you bought. That machine will hopefully work for you as long as you're not planning on taking your therapy into your own hands, as it doesn't provide detailed graphing that can be used with programs to help you interpret your results, and make corresponding changes to machine settings. I learned how to interpret all of the graphs, and make setting changes to my own machine. My AHI is 0 most of the time now when I use the machine, so my adjustments must have worked out OK.
Regardless of brand,....that company is a great one to deal with. Honest, and reliable always.
PS,....most mask cushions/pillows will last a LOT longer than the DME's want you to replace them. I have used some of them for 6 months or more with no changes in results, or leak rates. Of course if you are getting your supplies through insurance, you can replace them on whatever schedule they allow.

Upon reading through my Prescription, and the subsequent Sleep Study results, it sounded pretty bad. "133 episodes/issues per hour." I read. "You stop breathing, on average 39 times per hour."
They were not going to approve the first machine (CPAP) we had discussed. Apparently, I am F'd up. Pressure was high enough, that the machine had to drop low enough for me to exhale, after the higher pressure setting. Hence the BPAP.
I am SO looking forward, to getting some sleep. 4 -5 months easily of 3 hrs sleep, has been debilitating.
Once they got it dialed in, I slept really good - with the BPAP machine hooked up. Looking forward to it.0 -
Yea, I figured you were worse off than me to need a BPAP out of the gate.
My AHI was 16 on my sleep study, which is just into the moderate scale, and all it took to hold my airway on the second study was a fixed pressure of 8cm/H2O. Yours qualifies as severe of course.
I have since changed my Autoset10 settings to a min/max setup of 6/10, and use EPR of 3. EPR is pretty much what the BPAP does in lowering exhalation pressure, but is limited to 3cm/h2o max. That's fine for me, but you obviously need more. At some point before too much time passes, you should request a copy of your entire sleep study if you don't already have one.
They will put your prescription settings into that machine you bought, so it will arrive ready to go. Of course I'm sure they already told you that.
I think you will most likely feel much better after you get accustomed to your treatment. With time you won't want to sleep without your machine.0 -
It's a ReSmart BPAP 25A Auto Bi-level machine, with built in heated humidifier. Has an SD card, tracking, automatic graphing, etc. Auto on when you put the mask on and take a deep breath, Mask alert if it senses a leak, etc. Lots of nice features.
Machines with same/similar specs. were about double in price. This one had 4.5 out of 5 stars reviews.
Really was not looking at dropping $1600+ for a similar machine.0 -
There really is no ResMed 'Air' machine. No offense intended, but that MyAir app is nothing but a simple progress tracker to basically urge you on with your therapy. It uses the same wireless modem that sends your info to your doctor, to give its information to the web app. It's fine for what it does, but the software I was referring to, where you can dial in changes to your own therapy produces graphs like this for example,..........
It's pretty much the same type of software the sleep docs use to make changes to your treatment. There is a learning curve of course.0
