Estate Sale Finds This Week

I ran across a couple more old fishing reels this week for my collection. One of them is an old Union Hardware fly reel. There's no name on the box and from what I can gather it was one of their reels that they sold to many different retailers in the late 20s and 30s.

I collect Mitchell reels mainly but when I run across any brand that's
really old and still in the original box I'll buy it and for $8 bucks it was pretty cheap.

And I found another old Mitchell 300 reel that was made in 1956 before Garcia was engraved on the cover plate. Somebody probably couldn't figure out how to get the bail to work many years ago because it hasn't been fished with very much at all. All I had to do was bend the bail trip tang down on the baffle plate and it works as good as it did when it was brand new. I got both reels for $8 bucks each. They're not worth any great amount of money but I enjoy collecting them.

    A big heavy salt water reel???

    What was it primarily intended for - how long a line would it hold???

    Please tell us a bit more back story and flesh out the thread.

    Thanks for the kind offer Ricci but I really don't collect fly reels. Old Mitchell's are my main interest. I just bought this one because it was there beside the Mitchell in it's original box.

    It's a pretty light weight fly reel used primarily for trout fishing. According to the writing on the box in the picture it holds 80 yards of line.

    Yes they have tractors, but they have a fantastic collection of old fishing rods and reels, and fishing boats an motors from a hundred years ago.
    You would love this place.
