That's the first thing my Buds asked me. :?

Feeling a little better now. Still very painful, but manageable. I thought I was totally screwed when it happened. First thing that popped in to my head was "No Insurance." Other than VA eligible. :?

    Live vicariously through me.

I just took 60mg of Oxycontin and a 600mg naproxen.

I once hyper extended a knee and tore the tendons - lateral interior cartilage tear - broke a foot.

    Rehab was no fun.

Knee still does not work right and hurts when the weather is bad.

Just got back in from, slowly carrying in the tree, in about 4+ 60# loads in a canvas log carrying set up.

Was agonizing, but I figure, I better get some motion in it, before it locks up.

Steep, uneven ground. Exactly what screwed me up to begin with.

3-5 days of steady rain forecast. Exactly why I was out back trying to get some wood in.

Not looking/feeling near as bad as what I thought, the first 5-10 minutes on the ground. Thought I was completely screwed.

Nobody said, I was overly smart. ;)

can't you drag the logs up next to the house with the jeep?? or borrow a neighbors tractor and spend day dragging them close, you can work them up as you need them and not have to wrestle them by hand......I would sacrifice a little grass in the yard to save the body

Nah. You would have to see the terrain/location. I would have to rely on my friend/Buddy to get them back around to the front of my house. (About 2/10 mi. away, on a different road.) I am not too big on asking anyone for anything.

    Stupid like that.

Actually, absolutely thrilled at how much better my knee feels. When It happened/laying on the ground, all I saw was $$ signs. :o  :?

I'm going to be okay, unless I get up tomorrow, and I am screwed.

Yeah, I'm screwed. (Woke up around 12:30. Got out of bed around 2:30am.) Painfully made my way to tbe bathroom, got the first aid kit and wrapped me knee. It's about twice the size as my other one. Don't know if I popped my knee out of joint or what. I will be thrilled if I did not tear my ICL. That would be bad, but that is what I am afraid of.

We are on very good terms. It would not be a problem. I am just exhorbitantly Independent, and apparently, Stupid. We help each other out all the time. I actually did not think, this would be too big a deal.

I guess I am just getting old. (And refuse to admit it.)

I guess I just need to acknowledge/accept the fact that I am getting Old, and am not 35 yrs old anymore. Nor can I do the physical activity I did when I was 35 yrs old.

Mind says Yes. Body, ..............................................................well we know where/how that ended up.

I have to admit, when I first hit the ground, all I saw was $$ signs. (No insurance.) I am beyond thrilled, my knee seems to be (painfully) workable.

Holy cow! They gave me 5mg Oxy after surgery, and I was holding onto the recliner because I felt like I was floating away! If I took 60, somebody better be ready with the NARCAN! :D

Not heat, use ice. Ice for inflammation, strains, sprains, pulled muscles, bruises etc., heat for infection to stimulate circulation.

I am absolutely thrilled with how my knee feels, VS. what I thought my knee was going to be like at this point.

    Dodged that Bullet.

Thought I was headed in to the ER. Big time.

Hey, this is nothing. I have been on the floor a couple times in A-Fib, praying to God, to alleviate it, not let me have a Stroke, in the last few days. Then I get the Claustraphobic feeling that I can not breath, while laying in bed, trying to go to sleep. Have to get up repeatedly. 3-4 hours sleep per night, in breaks. Exhausted.

    Good stuff.

Spoke too soon. Knee is pretty screwed as of early am. Hurting bad.

Unfortunately I sometimes take amounts of pain meds that would kill a hard core drug addict - for the intractable neuropathy related high level pain (they rate my pain as 7-10 level on a scale of one through ten)

Platinum toxicity - cannot be treated or removed from the human body - permanently degenerative condition - I will not get better

Of course I am supposed to be dead several times over so there's that...

It's all relative - many are worse off or live with worse or are dead.

I have 3 narcan dispensers if needed.

I don't metabolize pain meds correctly - fentynal has zero impact or effect on me - lidocaine and Novocaine don't work - several anesthesia agents don't work well or at all...

In addition I have grown used to or resistant or tolerant after 3 years.

I live with pain - but the important part of that statement is that I live.

Hopefully Ken will be okay - adrenaline and entertains and pain meds have worn off at this point so he should know what hurts.

Yes after sleeping and possible swelling it may be a rough morning - but hopefully just that - a tough morning...

It happens to all of us - he knows to take it easy and be cautious and assess things.

    My fingers are crossed.

    Thank you so much Todd.

I am so very thankful that I am not in the ER, just now looking at knee surgery. That is what I first thought, when I hit the ground. Excruciating. Never had anything like that in my knee, in my Life.

Like asking my Buddy/Neighbor for help. Last on my list of things to do. The offer means a lot though, Todd. Thank you.

Blew out my ACL when I was a young man. Repairing some damaged boathouse destroyed in a windstorm and stepped/jumped from one floating dock to another about a foot lower. As you wrote, hurt so bad I thought I'd puke. Rested a few minutes and it felt good enough, I was able to work (gingerly) the rest of the day. That night, liberal doses of whiskey and some hydrocodone got me a decent night's sleep.
The next morning, I could barely put any weight on it. Spent the next 11 months on crutches. Got really good on crutches though!
Hope your scenario is very different.

You are not PAYING ATTENTION. We had this discussion a month or so ago about my 25 or so year old mind and 60+ year old body when I cut down a couple of trees. I am learning slowly and my wife says there may be hope. We just cleared out an older relatives apartment that happened to be on the fifth floor and a long way from the elevator. For the big pieces of furniture I called a place called College Hunks Hauling Junk. Two scrawny young guys showed up with a truck and in less than an hour they had more done than I could do in a day. No muss, no fuss and no pain afterwards. Even ten years ago I would have looked down on someone who "wasted" their money hiring out manual labor. Now I think it is the smart way to go. I hope you aren't to stove up in the morning. Have you started the ball rolling with the VA yet? If not, this may be your wake up call. Take it easy a couple of days and I hope it improves. Bob

Yeah Bob, getting registered with the VA is one of my priorities for early next week. I researched and got the phone # and address of the Full time American Legion VSO.

I am going to explain my situation and see if they can expedite it, so I can get someone to drive me over to Johnson City to the VA facility, and get looked at / X-rayed. Never, ever screwed my knee up this bad. Even the dog (Buddy) is looking at me like WTH Dude? Hobbeling around extremely slowly with a stick/cane. I am going to call my Mom later and see if she has a couple canes, or better yet, a walker or crutches.

When it rains, it pours.

    Thanks all.

I'll tell you an absolute horror story about the shower and an injured knee (not me, but a good friend of mine).

Injured his knee playing basketball back in 2000. Like you, John was one of those guys who would never ask others for help. One day he hopped in the shower (removed the immobilizer to shower). Slipped a tiny bit in the shower and put a bunch of weight on his injured knee to catch his balance. His knee buckled and he really did lose his balance. Fell through his shower door (glass) onto the floor outside his shower. A big sheet of the broken glass fell down and hit him right across the back of both ankles...sheared BOTH achilles tendons clean off completely!

Now, you want to talk about a bad injury, that was a bad injury! After the surgery he literally could not put any weight at all on either of his two feet for 9 months!! You read that right...9 months!

He had to learn to walk all over again, and it took another 18 months of PT to get the tendons stretched out enough to where he could even take a step unassisted.

P.S. This story just gives me the heebee-jeebies even thinking about it!! I think about it every single time I get in the shower, even today.

Damn! That story makes me want to replace my glass shower doors pronto!! I have often thought about what would\could happen if I or my spouse took a spill in there!

Thanks FCD that is giving me some hope. They did talk about if they are still somewhat attached "scarring," might help with attachment.

I distinctly remember that story when you first told it. (It made me cringe also.) I also have glass shower doors, and think about that almost every time I am in the shower.

This knee immobilizer (ankle to groin) seems to really help. Metal rods on both sides and back. Wide velcro straps (about 8 of them) top to bottom. I got back around 8pm last night. Having crutches to take ALL the weight off the bad leg when moving also helping reduce the pain. I have been trying to hang out on the recliner so I can elevate my leg/knee. Buddy letting me know he is not happy about it. Was just now (while typing this) slowly trying to make his way onto the recliner with me. I couldn't let him, as there is not enough room for both of us. He is up on his normal spot on the couch near me - giving me the big sad eye., occasionally whining and raising his paw at me. (Waving?)

    Feeling better this am.

    Thanks all.

I've had two orthopedic surgeons, several GP MD's, PT's, PA's and RN's all tell me the same thing. "ice for the first 48hr's heat after that". I do what everyone of them tell me.
