More than half the world's donkey population could be wiped out in five years due to rising demand in Chinese medicine, charity Donkey Sanctuary has warned.
Nearly five million skins are used every year to make ejiao, a gel believed to be a health remedy, putting enormous strain on donkey populations around the world.
It is thought that ejiao, which was once the preserve of emperors but is now sought after by the middle classes, can help cure anything from colds to ageing.
You can always count on Africans to be abusing animals. :x

I happen to like donkey's, mules, burrows, and such. They deserve to live, as many of them also work very hard doing stuff for us humans!

Don't ever go to Africa if you like animals. Africans treat their animals very harshly. Their favorite thing is to whip them with a broken fan belt.
I went off on a guy in Kenya for beating his Donkey(I know that sounds funny). I walked up behind him and grabbed a stick he was hitting it with and pulled it out of his hand and told him in swahilli I was going to beat his ass with it. He took off running from a crazy muzinga.0 -
I remember an episode of "Bizarre Foods" Chinese edition where they were snacking on donkey. Unlike the French eating horses I guess the Chinese will put donkeys on the endangered species. 0
