what would they do with a person with rabies

if you get rabies, you have to get treatment right away because once you have the symptoms, it's too late. there is no cure.

so what happens when someone has the symptoms? he goes to the hospital to find out what's wrong, the doctors find out that he has rabies, it's too late for treatment, and.... guess what! they're not going to let him leave the hospital.

and the symptoms are only going to get worse. convulsions, confusion, drooling, can't talk or swallow anything, hallucinations, aggressive behavior, hyperactivity, until paralysis and death.

so what are they going to do in that case? lock him in a room and wait until he's dead? "put him to sleep"? or what?

    from what I have read only 2 or 3 cases in the USA reported each year

    Treatment
    Rabies is an overwhelmingly fatal disease, with only a few documented survivors. There is no effective curative treatment for rabies once clinical signs have appeared.

    All cases of suspected rabies exposure should be treated immediately to prevent the onset of clinical symptoms and death. Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) consists of wound treatment, the administration of rabies vaccines based on WHO recommendations, and if indicated, the administration of rabies immunoglobulin (See table below).

    A bite from an infected person will spread the virus, so normal isolation is required, but unlike in the movies, humans generally don't become "rabid animals" and begin attacking others at will. They'll develop partial paralysis before going into convulsions, and then slip into a coma and die. Anyone who is infected will be sedated, but that is to ease their suffering and not to protect society as a whole. Rabies infection is rare in the United States,with maybe 100 cases in the past 40 years.

    if you get bit go to the doctor / hospital . if you think there is a chance. your playing the odds and take the animal if possible
    treat early a good chance wait and die from what I have read but google and read for you self is the best

    If possible, kill or cage the animal & turn it in the authority. They will test it for the rabies virus (by cutting it's head open & culturing the brain). Unless you can be positive you have the animal, you will be strongly advised to get the vaccine.

    I believe that there has only been one person to have ever survived rabies.

    Do I recall as a child it was a series of 7-8 shots in the stomach with a horse needle...

    Rabies and tetanus and lock jaw and lead poisoning were more common in the early 70's I guess.

    I know the new treatments are more modern and more easily administered but I remember be wary of the treatment as a child - as well as wary of the disease...

    Cujo did not help assuage me fears.

    Haldol and morphine followed by death.

    I was bitten on the ear by a Bat when I was stationed in Panama. They sneak up at night and one of the guys who was supposed to be moving around to keep them away was not. 3 of us were bitten that night.

    We had to go to Coco Solo Hospital and get tetanus shots and rabies shots. It sucked.

    I still have the scar on my ear.

    At least one human rabies case has been treated symptomatically and the patient survived. May be more by now. If it is too late for vaccine, they treat the case symptomatically.

    Do you get a little restless on a full moon? Does the sun cause you any discomfort? Have you ever woke up out in the woods with no cloths on? That last one probably only applies to wolf bites. :D:D

    And having seen American werewolf in London such transformative events set to the lunar phase cycle do not seem like much fun...

    Why is there no werewolf or lycanthrope children's cereal???

    We have count chockula and booberry and frankenberry and the leprechaun on lucky charms but no werewolf cereal - that seems somewhat unfair and discriminatory and lupine bias based exclusionary involuntary segregation.

    And don't mention twilight - if you are a fan of twilight you are a 12 year old girl or a Peter puffer...

    Might as well embrace my pretty pony (google brony) or strawberry shortcake or hello kitty...

    We are treading on dangerous ground and risk calamitous events.
