T.V. show; Kings of Pain,,,,,
Have you seen it,or the previews?
Guys will purposely be stung/bitten by very venomous animals,snakes,scorpions,spiders,ect. to show how tuff they are and how much pain they take.
This, to me, is just plain stupid!!!! I just can't see it.
Kings of pain would be Dave,MrMike,Ehler Dave to name just a few of many. These are your brave ones,these are your tuff guys.
Sorry, but this new show just really hit me wrong. I first wanted to yell,"how dare you", but that's been taken. Rant over.

Preview came on, and all I could think of was, dumbass. Hour later my buddy stops by, the commercial is on again, looks at me says, "what a dumbass".

Dumbest thing I've seen. The only thing lacking is the line "hold my beer and watch this". 0 -
If you examine it deeper than its commercial facade essentially you have a full medical support the team and ambulance and emt's and a specialist in venom and toxins and poisoning and paralytic agents and septic vectors prepared in advance with proper equipment and meds to keep these two guys alive and from irreparable damage...
And while it appears dangerous or risky or stupid you can be certain they carefully select the fauna that will bite or sting and know the risks out to 10 decimal points and have counter agents on the ready - knowing exactly how to react in a case of severe anaphylactic shock or other systemic failure outside of the predicted norms...
You can also see that they have in advance been checked out by docs in preparation for the show - allergy test panels and toxin reactivity panels and full physicals / stress tests / the whole nine yards - the full Monte.
Presumably they are both in extremely good health with no underlying tipping point conditions that might be exacerbated by the introduction of biological agents or triggered by pain response and adrenaline dumps...
From a liability point of view more than concern for the health of these guys.
And you can be certain that there is extensive research on the ability of all of these critters and the biological mechanisms they ate equipped with by god or nature - reams of data and tons of intense focused info...
They are not going into it blind - randomly selecting their threat vector biting or stinging subjects - rather they are prepared in advance in a manner that abates or reduces any risks to as low a percentile as possible - except for the pain aspect...
Having participated in pain management studies as a test subject and having been on the receiving end of investigational studies using experimental meds still in their trial phase - being a test dummy at a teaching hospital I do posses some insight into this theater of the bizarre circus of outrage and curiosity...
Of course there are still risks and threats and mother nature can be a royal bitch.
My understanding is that they are also prepped in advance with certain anti inflammatory meds and analgesics and blood pressure controllers and such (naproxin - diphenhydramene - lisinoprol - aspirin - anti nausea agents and others) to take the edge off so to speak...
And I am certain that there are syringes of morphine or dilauded or zophran or atavan or meclazine or benadryl or other analogues if the pain persists or becomes life threatening or exasperated other health issues...
The human body handles and abates immediate intense focused localized high level pain in an amazing fashion - partly a fight or flight survival mechanism...
It's the long term high level intense intractable pain that never goes away that causes physical and mental issues that the body has difficulty dealing with...
The show may be interesting and educational underneath the bread and circus slow down and rubber neck the fatal horrible traffic accident level of attraction...
And pain is relative - the mental ability to survive it or cope with it still largely an unknown factor that plays a huge role in the issue...
I think that even with advanced medical technology and preparation they will still avoid the monitor lizard - whose complex septic saliva is amazingly deadly and still not well understood - plus they have pretty powerful jaws and are advanced apex predatory killers at the top of the food chain - modern meds still can't cope with the disease laden soup that stews in their mouths and gut - a killing agent worse than venom or toxins and still not understood.
I might watch if I happen across it - but I would not actively seek it out.

Seems like another mindless show for the masses. I assume they have extracted the venom from the snakes, spiders and such before the bites take place.
Wife and I saw a preview and both said we had no interest in it. Then postulated it will probably be a hit. Seems that when we like a show, it only runs a season or two. If we don't like it they seem to be a hit. Guess we are not the target audience for most TV producers.0 -
Public entertainment now days sure seems pretty stupid to me. They used to do that stuff only on cartoons. Even as children, we knew to never try this stuff at home! Common sense has been lost somewhere along the way! 0 -
Sounds like the show Jackass got a new name. Regardless, aside from the even questionable "coming of age" ceremonies practiced around the world indigenous people, it is just for attention. Would these ass-hats do this if there were no cameras? Heck no... :oops:
I too have felt like a king of pain some and for sure a prince of pain since 1994. More than half my life has been lived in the constant fog of opiates which only take off the sharpest part. Thanks to all the no anti-opiate abuse laws, I am now taking less than I have in 20 years. I feel I am on a fine line between being able to continue to work, and my next big flare up that will put me down for good. Almost all I do anymore is go to work, and go home and lay around. I can really only handle doing much else except on the weekend. I already gave up all my sporting activities, switched to I.T. to use my mind and not my body, etc.0 -

Some years ago I read a science fiction story about a TV show set in the future when TV sets have an emotional connector so you experience the emotions and feelings of the people in the program.
The big new program featured people paid to undergo medical procedures without painkillers so the "viewers" could "feel the pain".
Yeah, the ultimate "reality show" :roll:
Every now and then something in TV reminds me of that story.0 -
i watched it ( well most of it skipped thru commercials and the added drama ) Ok a couple wasp although large were still a singe sting and a tarantula bite . all have been suffered countless times by many ( I had a red legged tarantula for years never got bit ) .
like stated they have selected and sorted out the creatures to bite sting them had a huge medical staff with them on camera and I bet a stand by medical helicopter not far
lets see a 8' rattler or black mamba or cobra have a bite for starters .0
