every time i crank up the computer to try to get news or weather or anything it is loaded with pop up ads of chit ..X it and another comes right up....
merryxmas i dont give a chit.....annoying ads go to my NEVER buy it list

    My friend, I don't know how you view the 'net or what browser you use, but there are these add-ons called "ad blockers." For real computers and browsers, anyway. The best I've found is called uBlock Origin.

    I haven't seen an ad or a popup in years.

    ^^^I completely agree with uBlock Origin^^^. It does fairly good by itself. If there is a place you don't like a certain aspect, you can use its "Element Hider" to hide certain elements on a webpage. I use it for flashy animations. They are annoying, but they can actually make me sick if they are too much. I also use Ad Block Plus but after they started getting paid by certain advertisers to let stuff through, they went down hill some.

    Unlike a previous forum admin, who was getting a "piece of the GB action", under my watch, adblocker is no longer a bad word in the forum. Even a simple program like Ad Blocker Plus can dramatically improve your online experience

    That's refreshing, Mark (No pun intended this time!) Other webczars get miffed when anyone posts about using ad blockers because it does impact their income. But some sites are so festooned with ads - especially flashing or video ads - that the website itself becomes unusable.

    I view it as a freedom of speech issue. A webmasters has every right to sell and post ads. And it is my right to ignore them.

    If GBHQ wants to cut me in for a slice of the profits on the ads, I'll shill for them around the clock, but I'm currently not receiving a penny. I've seen these ads. The forum disclaimer was that the ads are representative your personal web browsing, but I don't buy it. I don't have toenail fungus. After members complained about malware and viruses linked to the ads, they were shut down for a brief time, but GB isn't going to dispatch a tech to your home or office to remove any virus or malware attached to ads on this site. My advice is to protect yourself (meaning your computer) as you see fit.
