Man, Am I Old and Out of Shape -
Was out back running the chain saw for about 45min - hour. Started carrying up arm loads, 75-100#'s up a 100' 45? incline out back, up and onto the back deck. Up another 8-10' stairs. Got a fair amount inside. Felt like I was gonna die.
It is supposed to get down to 13-20? for the next several nights.
I wanted to be prepared. I am way behind on my prepared wood this year. I can see getting a load delivered.
Hey, I didn't croak. Buddy was giving me encouragement and trying to knock my armload of wood out of my arms. He is good like that. We're playing right? Good Dog.
I already have a couple weeks worth inside. Big stuff. 6-10" red and white oak logs, for overnight. Just needed some smaller stuff. 4"-6" to get it going. (Also red/white oak. Some poplar.) Been cut down for about a year or so +, so ready to go.
About 3/4 weeks of emergency wood (dried and been inside for about 3 years,) in the basement.
Almost 60. Feeling it. :?

Dennis Hopper said ?Hey! 60?s the new 40!?
Right before he croaked.0 -
Cant be too bad off.
Just carried about 4 more loads, 75-100#'s up, and inside.
My Cardiologist would be proud.
Or saying, "Your a DA."
Hey, lay down, stop moving, your done.0 -

It kind of sounds like, he may already be heading this way.
That's alright, Buddy needs a new "Chew Toy."0 -
Sprained my wrist, wrenched my back.

Suck it up buttercup! You're still just a spring chicken at your age.

Hey, no worries. I've got wood to burn for free heat. Woodstove going, is the best.
Fischer Grand-Pa model. Double doors, quite large. ($400 from a Buddy.) Brought down from upper PA.
Good stuff.
I may go take 1/2 of a 7.5mg Oxy.

If you're doing all of that with loose logs then partner I'm telling you....you ain't out of shape
, I'd dare any Doctor to disagree and challenge them to do the same thing.0 -

I hear you Brother. I believe I am in very good shape for my age. Despite my health issues. I am 6'1", 195#.
Work is very strenuous. I firmly believe, if you stop moving, your done.
I pride myself on being active, and self-sufficient.0 -
You are not old and out of shape until you need a nap after taking a dump. 0 -
Yes I am hauling the fire wood these days, to feed the big Norwegian stove. Going down to 9 degrees tomorrow night.
It is strenuous. But, look at it this way, dying while hauling firewood up the steps beats dying in a nursing home.0 -

Like the old Indians said "Cutting firewood warms you up twice"0 -
I did the same work you did last week. My heart held up but the rotator cuff in my right shoulder did not. Careful of that with those 100# loads.Junkballer wrote:KenK/84Bravo wrote:Started carrying up arm loads, 75-100#'s up a 100' 45? incline out back, up and onto the back deck. Up another 8-10' stairs.

We can tell you?re not old, yosh. A successful B.M. is cause for celebration at my age.
Then you take a nap.0 -
My old hunting buddy used to say, "Firewood -- Warms You Twice." 0 -
Well, I am paying for it.
Fell with an armload, on uneven terrain stepping over and on multiple downed logs.
Wrenched my back and sprained my left wrist.
When I realized how screwed up I was this morning, I had to call out.0 -

Yeah but look at all the money you're saving. I'm sure you'll still be ahead even after the doctor visit and medications and missed days at work.

Must be feeling better, (or an Idiot.) I just now brought in a couple more armloads of wood. (Carefully.)
Supposed to get down to 9? tomorrow night.
No $ lost. Took a "Vacation day."
Received my pump shotgun from my FFL. Spent quality time with the dog. It's all good.
My brain says Yes. My body says No.
Or "Oh, No." The next day.
Nothing better than burning a fire, when it is ridiculously cold outside.0 -
I don't pick up and move much of anything anymore that I can't haul in my wagon, my cart, my hand truck or my wheelbarrow.:) It may be slower than grab and go, but it is a lot easier on the old knees and back. 0 -

It is the falling down, and tweaking myself that hurts.
Terrain was not conducive to any of the variety of transport you listed.
I got It done though.
Brought in about three more armloads, while hurt. You do what you gotta do.0
