Good luck Deer hunters
I would imagine alot of ya'll are out hunting today. Perfect day for it here in NC, cold snap came in was windy but now nice and still with a frost this morning to kill the ticks.
I don't hunt anymore but I wish ya'll luck.
I may go out a shoot a few squirrels.

Planning on going out looking for Bambi on the 15th. We have a good 8" of snow on the ground and the forecast is calling for bitter cold temps with no letups in the long range. The only way I can deer hunt these days is from my permanent shooting shack that I heat with a propane heater. I have the place equipped with a lot of good reading material and a very comfortable padded bench to sleep....er sit on. I just made a fresh batch of pickled bologna with sweet onions that should be pretty pickled up by next week!
Thanks for the good luck wishes!0 -

pickled bologna with onions, in closed space with propane heater, you know its not good to mix 2 gases in small confined area.........0 -
I like Bologna but I have never had it pickled. I like it fried or just as it comes from the store. In a sandwich with onions, mustard and mayonnaise and maybe a few pickles. 0 -
Either sex day here for front loaders. I drew down on a doe just after sunrise but passed. Later a decent four point and a scrubby three point were chasing some does around my field for about 30 minutes. Had a good time watching them and didn?t get my hands bloody.. 0 -
Frustrating season for me so far in VA (archery). Haven't seen squat until yesterday. A big 8 pointer came right to me (10 yards). Was literally squeezing the crossbow trigger when a BIGGER buck busted out of the brush and ran him off. 0 -
Just got back from Montana with a Cow Elk and decent 4x4 Muley. Close to impossible to get a Bull elk license as a non resident in the area we hint.
I rifle hunt southern Wisconsin in 2 weeks(3 tags) and shotgun deer hunt Northern Illinois 2 weeks after that( just 1 tag!).
I'm ready!0 -

I used to hunt in Eastern MT around Ft Peck. Great hunting but man was it cold.0 -
Put one in the freezer with a bow kill. Colder than you know what in Wis. First one for the freezer is always a young doe. Never see a farmer eat a four year old bull. Now I can be choosy. 0 -
Not far from Canada! I had to look Ft Peck up.Sam06 wrote:gearheaddad wrote:Just got back from Montana with a Cow Elk and decent 4x4 Muley. Close to impossible to get a Bull elk license as a non resident in the area we hint.

We hunt in way southeast Montana. 15 miles from SD and not too far north of Wyoming.
Near Ekalaka.
We had cold and snow this year. Last year it was sunny and hot! 70-75 and 35-40-50 at night.
This year we had teens and a low of 3!
It was Cold! DAMN COLD!
28 degrees on my room one morning! Thank goodness for a quality sleeping bag.
Good luck and safe hunting to all the hunters out there!

I lived near Glasgow MT. Great hunting and the Whit tail along the River breaks was excellent. Back in the 80's they were considered pests and I shot quite a few that were huge.
I loved that area but like I said it was so cold and the wind was a killer.0 -

I haven't had a clear shot...yet.0
