Contender Fans - Goodbye Bullberry

Fred has hung up his hat and the Bullberry shop will soon close forever. Link - https://www.bullberry.com/

I wrote quite a few articles about the Contender, including one about Fred and his shop. I don't know if T/C still makes them or not, but there are probably quite a few fans of the gun and Fred's barrels still out there. The webpage hints that the shop may re-open - probably under a new name - but for now, the long-treasured Bullberry barrels and superlative stocks are gone.

    Sad to hear that I have 3 of their barrels and all are quality workmanship and very accurate.

    I was stunned to see that their barrels are now running $400+. Holy Smokes! I remember when they were well under $200 and T/C factory barrels ran about a Franklin.

    Yea they are expensive.

    I have a 22 K hornet barrel an 30wcf AI and a 6.5 TCU barrel for my contender. I figure the 6.5 barrel is worth 500 easy.

    All are 14" barrels except the 22 K its a 12".

    Good company sorry to see it go.

    I never saw the point of the TC 14" barrels. I have one in .223 & one in 30/30 but I would gladly swap them for a 16" or longer barrels so I could use a shoulder stock with them. The only one of those I have is a 45/70. The rest are 10". I bought mine long ago & used at gun shows so I never paid the horrific prices I see now.

    I have a Bullberry barrel for my Encore in 458 WM! that I don't think I would take $600 for.

    They are for people who want to hunt with a handgun but get as much velocity as they can. 30-30 gains a lot of power in a 14" vs 10" before T/C came out with the super 14 people used the 30 Herret because it was a shortened 30wcf and was efficient in a 10" barrel.

    But with a 16" barrel you can use it both ways.

    lsn't there an ATF rule about short barreled rifles? 16'' minimum?

    The 14" with a muzzle tamer is legal as a rifle, I have a 223 that is amazingly accurate.
