Anybody have a pet rabbit?

My granddaughter has a Holland Lop and his incisors have grown abnormally long. The vet I use for my dogs was of no help. We have googled the problem and have a few ideas. Any of you folks have experience?

    I?m no veterinarian, but don?t their teeth keep growing, so they chew on stuff to wear them down?

    I suppose it would be pretty bad if she can?t get it resolved. Best of luck.

    I've watched the wild cottontails around the house chewing on my garage side door wood to trim their teeth.
    I don't have a caged bunny, but I know they do need to chew on something.

    We had a Netherland Dwarf for many years. Our vet told us that the teeth keep growing and they need something hard to wear it down. We found a chunk of hardwood with the bark still on and she would go to town on it. I don't know what to do with one that has already grown long. We had to look for a vet that was used to "pocket pets" as they called it. Might want to see if there is one close.

    My sense of humor exactly. I love it when little girls are giving away kittens at Walmart. I act like I'm interested in the most plump kitten then seriously ask if they have any recipes to go with the kit.
    The looks I get!
    The worst is from my wife.


    I used to have rabbits and don't remember toofies being a problem. I let big Freddie loose and he lived in the briar patches around the house for a couple years.

    If you let her bunny out for a while, the rabbit should find whatever is necessary to wear down the teeth. Would you be able to catch it at the end of recess period?

    Had rabbits for years. Cages were made of wood with wire on the bottom of the cage by us.

    The rabbits would gnaw down the wood to the point where the wood had to be replaced.

    Toss a part of a 2x4 in the cage and see if it gnaws on it.

    Jim, the teeth need to be trimmed, and it needs to be done by a vet,...unless you have some fingers you can spare. I would rate the process right there with trying to give a feral cat a pill. After it's been done, with something hard and abrasive in the cage, the bunny will do it's own maintenance. Left like it is, the teeth can grow to a point where it can't chew, and eventually starve itself.

    i will never forget the guffaws when at my bar, a bunch of noon-er drinkers reading the local rag,saw and ad RABBITS FOR SALE...CUDDLY OR DELICIOUS

    When I was really young my dad raised rabbits... But, not as pets

    Well, the veterinarian fixed him up today. Put him to sleep and ground the teeth down.
