Got one yesterday at Rite-Aid, the little fella said is was a special one for ?at risk seniors?
Spent the last 12 hours freezing under 4 big blankets. Felt like I was dying.
If I could get my hands on him, his scrawny but would be ?at risk?.

I have never had one myself even though by doctors tries to push one off on me every time I see him, my dad got sicker than a dog both times he got one, though that was many years ago, I will take my chances, hope you get to feeling better Jim 0 -
The knowledge & training of the pharmacists who administer IM injections varies; you need to go to another drug store in the future.
The "senior" flu vaccine has 4 times the concentration as the standard vaccine. You are more likely to have an adverse reaction than after receiving the standard vaccine. And, the "senior" vaccine is untested, unless you want to consider yourself to be participating in the trial. And, it does nothing to increase your resistance to catching the flu.
It may make you feel a little better if you file an adverse reaction report with the CDC.

Jimdeere, that is your immune system kicking in to develop the antibodies against the flu. That is how vaccines do what they do. With the antibodies already present your chance of contracting a bad to sever case of the flu are greatly diminished. Some people have stronger symptoms after the vaccine than others. In your case you at least know the vaccine triggered your immune system, for 20-30% of the people it doesn't. Most people do not have as strong a symptoms post vaccine as your did, but some do.
Flu is still serious business and the elderly are more at rick than middle age folks. Chills through the night are much better than a week or two or more in the ICU followed by months of rehab, I've seen it.0 -
In the last ~30 years I have gotten 3 (forced) flu shots. I have had the flu 4 times during that time. Two of them were within days of getting the shot. So, now I don't get them unless I am forced to. I think a bigger help would be if businesses pushed their employees to take off when they are sick instead of penalizing them. Most places if you take a sick day they act as if you went AWOL in a combat zone and abandoned your post. 0 -
That just means it worked.. when I got mine she told me I should run a low fever with chills for up to 3 days 0 -
The first flu shot I received was back in 1976 for the Swine Flu and people started dying from Guillain?Barr? syndrome so they stopped giving the shots. I made it though that one without any adverse affects. The next 2 shots I got I was in bed with the flu both times with in 24 hours. My wife didn't get the shots and she made it just fine.
Since then, especially since we retired 5 years ago, we don't get the shots and we go into semi-hybridization starting at Thanksgiving every year until the end of March. We stay away from crowds, don't eat in restaurants, go to the grocery store early when very few people are there. Remember anything you touch like the nozzle on the gas pump probably has had somebody's snotty nose bugger picking hands on it. Door knobs are the same way. Wash your hands often and don't put them near your eyes or mouth.0 -
flu shots have helped the last 20 years or so haven't had any of that nasty stuff..and i grew up drowning in snot..the first one way back in the 70"s were a modified live virus and that kicked my butt for about 3 months..quit them for many years till i needed the resistance now with a diff virus design..if everyone got them even tho they are a best guess as to potential strain, a herd immunity factor kicks in to reduce cases 0 -

I had received flu shots for several years, then about 3 or 4 years ago I got one and broke out with hives. My VA Doc put the vaccine on my allergies list and not only do I not get anymore, whenever I get prodded by other healthcare providers to get the shot, all I have to say is I am allergic and they quit bothering me.
I can still eat and enjoy eggs too! They give me no trouble. :P
Those posts above about knocking off senior citizens may or may not need green font. The way things are these days can turn a joke into some damn serious reality!0 -
I actually did get a flu shot some years ago just before winter.
The next spring the news stories were the flu shot given was for the wrong strain so useless.
I haven't gotten one since even tho asked every year when at the VA for my annual checkup.
As a side note, I never did get the flu after the flu shot so figured they don't work anyway.0 -
Live virus is not used in injected flu vaccine. It is not possible to get the flu from that vaccine. The virus protein in the vaccine may make you slightly ill for several days.
Nasal spray vaccine contains attenuated virus; i.e., weakened virus. You might get the flu from that. Most doctors now believe that the nasal vaccine is not effective.

1. You cannot get the flu from a flu shot.
2. You might get a minor reaction from one, ranging from soreness at the injection site to chills and a light fever. That is NOT the flu.
3. Predicting which flu strain will be the most prevalent a year in advance is a lot like weather prediction: not always spot on.
4. Even if the annual shot is for the wrong strain, it still gives you a good deal of protection against whatever you get.
5. Lastly, you know-it-alls who don't get a flu shot are known by an accurate name: Typhoid Mary. YOU are the reason for influenza epidemics, and the deaths that result. Happy now?0 -
I never took the flu shot previous to the 2018 season, but in 2017 I got the type A flu, and I've never been so sick.
Anyway,....that started me taking the regular quadrivalent IM injection which I have now had two years in a row. I felt nothing at all last year, and early October this year, all I got was a slightly sore arm for a day or two.
I plan on getting one every year going forward. The flu is already starting to circulate in the area where I live.0 -
I get the normal one every year. Working in healthcare its that or wear a mask.

Next time I?m going to get my shot on Friday afternoon so I can lay around on the couch and watch football for a couple of days.

I am named for my Grandfather who died in 1919 from the flu . He was the ripe old age of late thirties. Flu shots came out in my late thirties. I have taken one every year since. I just made eighty. I'll still take them when I'm old. 0 -

I got that one with no ill effects whatever. I have gotten the shots each and every year for over 10 years now, and I have not had the flue and very rarely even a cold. Not getting the flue without getting the shot proves you have been lucky. 0 -

Then again I hold one's time and manner of death has been preset at the moment of conception so regardless of any action or inaction one may take ~ what will be will be.0
