We responded out here to a dog attacking multiple workers and three people were transported to the hospital, one being in critical condition right now,? Clark County Sheriff?s Sgt. Scott Elliott said.
Elliott said the wounds were to the victims? upper body and extremities.
Rescue founder Molly Murray said the 2- to 3-year-old male pit bull named ?Mayhem? was being taken to a veterinarian to be euthanized after he bit at least three people.
Murray said the dog showed no signs of aggression before Monday night?s attack, and that he had been rescued from a drug bust along with a female and some pups.

I might be missing something here, but a dog isn't going to see strangers like it sees its owner. or is it supposed to be a harmless teddy bear to everyone in the world?0 -

I'm guessing if the rescue owner was taking it to be put down she had her reasons.0 -

That is true and we need look no further than the government; local, state and federal. However, I have never banned or made anything illegal to have.

Nothing wrong with owning a Pit. You know what you own and how to manage him. You've stated yourself you wouldn't want to be on the wrong side of him so you know the potential. Yes all breeds have the potential to attack.
When someone is treated for an animal bite it is reported to the county health department. That means there is actual recorded data to evaluate. When I fill out an animal bite form in the ER I take the person's reporting the bite word for the animal and breed involved. Most bites are dog bites and most of the people reporting are the owners of the dog. An owner generally isn't going to make up a breed to place on their own dog. Given such a large data base the percentages can't be skewed much by false reporting. Most people that get dog bites are bitten by a known dog. Bites from random dogs are a small percentage. My point is, in the recorded data, the percentage of bites per breed is pretty accurate. Not news reports but hard data.
The facts are what they are and shouldn't be ignored. The two most dangerous breeds in this country, based on number of attacks resulting in death, correlated with the number of dogs of those breeds, are Pit Bulls And Rottweilers. There are more pits than rots but the percentages are basically the same. Look it up. Fatal or serious injury attacks by other breeds are reported but pits make up 35-40% of those type of attacks, that's not all dog bites, just the serious stuff. Of course pits get reported on more, because they do more and like you said they make headlines.0 -
And that percentage is made up of Pits, who are not Socially acclimated, nor properly supervised. (Repeatedly.) Over and over. Allowed to run/roam free.[Ghetto Pits.] (Mine is not.) Never has, never will.
Aggresive dogs, tend to be aggressive. Rot's, Pits, Chow's etc. Either they are properly adapted/supervised, or they are not. My experience, (having owned one,) indicates that they need to be. If you are not a "Responsible owner," then well, you are not a responsible owner. Enough said.

Growing up on the farm, dogs that were dumped off by 'town people' would wander in from time to time. Some would hang around for awhile and some not. They were fed and never abused; same as the poultry and livestock which were the farm income.
Some were friendly and some not so much regardless of size or true breed or 57 breed.
Never owned or kept an animal after leaving the farm.
I do know a couple that has a pit bull.
I don't trust it nor most other animals but do respect their presence same as the huge Hereford bulls we had on the farm.0 -

Same dog, show up on our property unannounced, a different animal. Can be scary. He minds well though. If I am present and tell him, "He's Okay, He's Okay." He calms right down and you are good. Otherwise, I'd recommend not coming in to tether range.

SUFFIELD, Conn. (AP) ? A 95-year-old Connecticut woman has died from injuries she suffered when she was attacked by a dog at the home of a former lawmaker who is also an animal rights activist.
Authorities say Janet D'Aleo, of Enfield, was found with life-threatening injuries Wednesday and brought to a Massachusetts hospital.
Police say D'Aleo was visiting a home in Suffield when she was bitten. The address disclosed by police is the same address as the home of animal rights activist and former state Rep. Annie Hornish.
Authorities say the 4-year-old male pit bull and pointer mix has been quarantined, pending further investigation.
Suffield Police Chief Richard Brown says officers will investigate the dog's background and what prompted the attack.
Dogs are unpredictable. My 2 Golden Retrievers are as different as night and day from each other. Jack is sweet and loves every dog or person he encounters where Chip is an Alpha dog and doesn't attack other dogs but will if provoked. I have had many Golden retrievers and Chip is the 1st one who is not very social with other dogs except Jack who he gets along fine with.
My dogs run loose 99% of the time but I live in the country. When people come over they are happy to see them but if they have kids I put the dogs up or on a leash. Jack is notorious for licking baby's and young kids in the face. I wouldn't trust Chip around a baby or kid.0 -
Pit Bull "mixes," are also notoriously reported as a "Pit Bull." Have seen pictures of "Pit Bulls," that were not even close. Repeatedly.

A true Pit, (not a heinz 57 mix,) properly acclimated and socialized is truly different than a "Ghetto Pit." They are all, however, lumped together. Non-socialized, interactive, abused, those taught to be Hostile, etc. nor Pits shown any kind of Love, are included in the myriad stories of Pit Assaults.
Those that are treated properly, treated correctly, shown Love, and treated with Respect, and Caution/Responsibility. (Are) Not the ones in the News.
Ghetto Pits, (as I call them, are a different animal entirely,) Coming from someone who Owns one. (And treats it, Handles it Responsibly.)

I did not take it as confrontational. From what you state, I do believe you are a responsible dog owner and that is totally awesome. I cannot say the same for a great many that own dogs or cats or whatever animal, therefore when encountering any animal in the wild or 'domesticated' IMO it's best to respect their presence and be alert. More than once, I've seen a 'docile' animal suddenly and viciously attack for no apparent reason.0
