buschmaster wrote:what's that noise?

she goes to the dining room
"Don't you hear it?"
"Don't you hear the crying? Don't you hear it?"
"Someone is crying endlessly."
she goes through the hall. there is a woman staring blankly. her lips move as if whispering but no words come out.
she waves her hand in front of her face. there is no response.
she comes to another woman who also stares blankly.
she leaves the two women and continues down the hall toward the sound of the crying.
she enters the bed chamber and stops.
there is a dead woman lying in the bed.
there is a tear rolling down her cheek.
she closes the door.
the dead woman speaks:
Are you afraid of me now?
"No, not in the least."
I'm dead, you see.
The trouble is I can't get to sleep. I can't leave you all.
I'm so tired. Can't anyone help me?
"It's but a dream, Agnes."
No, it's not a dream.
Perhaps for you it's a dream... but not for me.
there is a pause.
I want Karin to come here.
the maid turns and opens the door.
"Agnes wants Karin to come to her."
the woman looks at her but says nothing.
walks to the bed chamber.
Can't you hold my hands and warm me?
Stay with me until the horror is over.
It's so empty all around me.
the woman angrily closes the door behind her. pauses. collects her thoughts.
"Nobody would do what you ask. I'm still alive. I won't accept involvement with your death."
she thinks for a moment.
"Perhaps, if I had loved you... but I do not love you."
(bitter weeping)
"What you ask me to do is repulsive. I'm leaving you now. In a few hours you'll be gone."
she turns and leaves despite the dead woman's sniffling.
the maid re-enters the bed chamber.
Anna?
"Yes?"
I want Maria to come.
she turns and speaks through the door.
"Agnes wants Maria to come in."
she silently walks past the maid and into the bed chamber.
once inside, the maid rushes out closing the door behind her.
Don't be afraid.
Please touch me.
Please talk with me.
she slowly walks toward the bed.
Hold my hands and warm me.
"You are my sister. I don't want you to be alone."
she sits on the edge of the bed.
"Oh, how sorry I am for you."
"Do you recall when we were small, and twilight came as we played, and both of us became frightened... and we'd cuddle very close and hold each other tight. It's simply the same thing now, isn't it?"
I can't hear what you're saying.
You must come closer to me.
Closer.

she runs screaming to the door. it's locked.
as the maid comes in she runs out the door.

she comforts the dead woman. "I'll stay with you. I'll stay here."
the dead woman's hand slowly, slowly slips from the table, amid her crying.
"Don't cry."
she returns to the door and speaks to the women.
"You needn't be afraid. I'll stay by her."
"It's pure morbidity, disgusting, meaningless," the first woman snarls. "She's already begun to rot. She has foul spots on her hands."
the maid only shakes her head, saying, "I'll take care of her," and closes the door.

That is like me visiting my Dad in the Dementia ward.
It is enough to make you want to wear a suicide vest at all times.0 -
