Gotta Love Moms -
Got a call this morning, "You need to come over, and pick up some homemade Beef noodle soup/stew."
My Mom is 90. Very active. Good cook. Inspired me to be one as well. I overheard her telling someone that "I was a better cook than she was." An ultimate compliment, to me. (I have worked/cooked in some High end restaurants.)
This after 5-6 fresh rainbow trout, with lemon wedges placed within, salt/pepper, butter, fresh thin sliced garlic - over a bed of fresh asparagus. Steaming it all. Then crisping it under the broiler.
Side of red potatoes, carrots, onions. A side dish of Fettuccini Alfredo as well. Fresh salad, with high end veggies, fresh grated Parmesian, homemade vinaigrette. Etc, etc.
Hooked me up. A quart of homeade sweet tea as well. Homemade Bread, cherry tomatoes, Deli turkey meat, etc. etc.
Good stuff.
My Pit, (Buddy) gave her much love, and was making her laugh.
Asked him if "You wanna go for a ride?"
Backflips ensued. His favorite thing, ever.

What makes you and your Mom such good cooks?
I picked out a few terms from your post and the secret is out. I wonder if anyone else caught this?
It burns me up to go into a "fancy" restaurant and pay top dollar for a wilted salad, soup that came from a can, steak so tough I can't chew it, fish that smells like the lagoon, lasagne from Costco, and a piece of frozen-then-thawed cheese cake.
And the wine likely came in a box.
Grrrrrrrrrr.

From what I can remember, my mom was also a good cook. Gone since I was 15. But she did instill in me many fine meals and how to make them!
I consider anyone who still has a mom to love to be the luckiest folks in the world!0
