What makes you and your Mom such good cooks?

I picked out a few terms from your post and the secret is out. I wonder if anyone else caught this?

It burns me up to go into a "fancy" restaurant and pay top dollar for a wilted salad, soup that came from a can, steak so tough I can't chew it, fish that smells like the lagoon, lasagne from Costco, and a piece of frozen-then-thawed cheese cake.
And the wine likely came in a box.
    Grrrrrrrrrr.

Its been my motto for many years, A great steak dinner starts with a great steak

Its a long drive for some of us - what time should we be there?

    As you astutely observed BK.

It is all about, "Fresh," and "Homemade."

Fresh, healthy ingredients are Key to good results.

From what I can remember, my mom was also a good cook. Gone since I was 15. But she did instill in me many fine meals and how to make them!

I consider anyone who still has a mom to love to be the luckiest folks in the world!
