Persistence Pays Off
One of my dogs is 6 years old and part lab/pit mix she is slow and uncoordinated. She chases her shadow, flies, moths, rabbits, squirrels, birds or any thing that moves or she thinks moves.
For some reason she has to go to the bathroom 1 time a night so around 2 i let her out the back door which is fenced in and she takes off like she does every night chasing nothing that i can see.
I go to the bathroom myself and when i come back she is not on the porch like normal. I walk on the deck and i see her by the fence and call her so she comes and i see/hear a rabbit running away.
About 30 minuets later she wants to go outside again so i get up and let her out and she brings back a tail. Im like damn she caught something. She comes inside again and about 30 minuets later she wants to go back outside so i get up again and she goes to the same spot smelling and looking around like she was trying to figure out what the hell she did.
I have a big area fenced in for the dogs. When i turn on the lights i let all the rabbits run outside the fence before the dog goes out. However the area is bigger than i can see by turning the light on. I think she just got a baby that did not know any better.
I hope she does not catch another one. The tail is in my trash can.

There is nothing wrong with a little tail unless it was yours that was chewed off.
I have had my tail chewed on a few times but never all the way off.0 -
I guess Dav is not going to tell us about the dog, Booger, he owned...before.
Dav took Booger for a walk every evening. They followed the path through the vacant lot, down the street to the stoplight, where they turned left. From there they walked in the grassy strip between the roadway and the creek.
Booger was smart, well trained and responded to voice commands so Dav never had to use a leash.
After crossing the railroad tracks they always short-cutted through the park back to Dav's backyard where the pup received his evening bowl of chow.
Occasionaly, the pair would pause to observe a minor traffic accident or passing train.
This one day a freight train was rolling slowly through town. Both man and dog stood close to the tracks feeling the wind from the cars. The summer eve was hot and the turbulence actually felt refreshing.
I told you Booger was smart....he began watching the wheels and Dav began watching the dog.
A freight car has a double set of axels and wheels at the front of the car and another double set at the back of the car, as well.
From the motion of the dog's head it became obvious to Dav that Booger was timing the wheels!

Dav was fascinated.
Apparently impatient to continue his walk, the dog decided he could jump through the larger opening between the moving wheels. So he lunged!
He made it through except for the last 1 inch of his tail which was cleanly sliced off by the third set of wheels.
It all happened so fast Dav could not react.
Could Booger have miscalculated the length of his tail?
When the end of his tail was snipped off Boog' immediantly spun around to check on his tail and the next wheel cut off his head.
A cop in his car, waiting for the train to pass jumped out to check on Dav who was heart broken and in shock.
The officer guarded the body while Dav trudged home for a shovel. He would bury his old pal near the creek.
A small crowd gathered and a little old lady queried the officer, "What happened, Tommy?"
"Very sad." The cop explained it all, then added. "And there is a lesson to be learned here."
A sly smile spread across his face, "Never lose your head over a little piece of tail!"
Dav1965, I hope you don't mind playing a part in my little story.
No dogs or trains were harmed in the spinning of this yarn.

I never had a dog named Booger but i did have a friend named Booger.
I would not let my daughter call adults by there first name so he was Mr. booger. LOL0
