60mph Gusts
I hope I still have a roof in the morning. neighbor at the end of the street has a nice front yard collection of garbage cans going.

We had a couple days\nights last week with similar strong winds. Took care of the beautiful Autumn colors that were just getting to peak! I was lucky to not have any damage or power outage. Hope you are just as lucky! 0 -
We had some overnight. Sounded like ?Auntie Emm? weather a couple of times with the wind and leaves hitting the screens.
Took Friday pm off and sucked up about 100 bushels of leaves. I think when the sun comes up this morning, the leaves will look thicker that Friday morning! Glad she saw the yard clean Friday night or she?d never believe me.0 -
Hope wind is all you get and not flames Trap, the fires were expecting up to 70 mph overnight. Some of those fools were going to stay home and "fight the fire." You cannot fight such a fire. 0 -
Still here, I hope my roof still is too! 15ft aluminum ladder I was using to trim the trees, is on the other side of the yard. Relieved to see my 6ft long glass top patio table didn't take flight. It's not supposed to start slacking off until 11PM . Right now it sounds like the C-5's from Travis are trying to land on my house!
My young friend Alex is up there on the Kincaid fire line with his CDF crew. Winds are blowing the fire towards Santa Rosa, so most of it and points south and west are under mandatory evacuation. With those 70mph gusts, that has got to be a blowtorch inferno right now, God help em all.0 -

No idea where you live but that is pretty common in these parts.
In fact, just the other day there were gust of 60 - 65 MPH.

Q&D, no it isn't common. 35-40mph winds are this time a year. The "gusts" are more like a blast, some are a "pop", others pop and blow a few minutes, let off and hit again. The pop/blast effect is what does the all the damage. Discovered what the big bang was that had woke me up. Front section of my fence "exploded"!
There's a strange effect when this house gets hit from high north winds like this. It all hits the north side of the house, has no where to go, creates a vortex, and blows out the east (front) and north taking the fence with it. This happened twice before, the last time was about 6yrs ago, and I had all new fence put up on that side.

USmilitaryguy might be able to attest to our wind here.
I have a windmill farm a couple miles south of me.
We regularly have 60-70 mph straight line winds, with gusts to 80mph.
Every great once in a while, I?ll have a dead elm, or big branch off of a huge silver maple go down out in my grove or pasture. Otherwise, just twigs falling.
70 miles away in Omaha, a 50-60 mph breeze will do some pretty bad damage.
I guess all my trees grew from saplings in this wind and are used to it.0 -

I said it isn't uncommon here but have no idea where you are.
In this area, other than damage I've seen by tornadoes, a 'wind shear downburst' that happened in a housing area is just as bad. I was lucky it missed my house but destroyed about a dozen homes, some less than a block away.0 -
I'm about halfway between Sac and SF, it's pretty flat out here so the delta winds give us a good blast now and then. The wind through the Carquinez Strait swings around the hills between Benicia and Fairfield on I-680, and makes the trees grow sideways. I get it here twice a year, north wind tearing up stuff from Fall to Spring, and summer south winds coating the house and cars with dust from the tomato fields south of me. Thankful I got my backyard trees trimmed before this hit, I'd have big heavy branches on my house, and three other yards. Saw a new Cadillac, or at least it looked like one, with a big oak laying in the middle of it. Don't think that one will buff out.
Gentle breeze so far today, giving the firefighters a break with the air tankers being able to fly.0 -
lots of table top flat ground here in the center of the USA .. know as the Great Plains states.
LIttle to nothing to block, deflect, disrupt the wind for hundreds and hundreds of miles.0
