The stories don't always enhance the value
I went to visit a friend just about sundown and there was a turtle that had been sunning itself in the road. An hour later as I was leaving it was still there so I grabbed the scoop shovel and tossed it in the back of the truck. No one at the tavern wanted it so the next day I drove out to see my uncle.
His eyes lit up like a kid at Christmas. He held out some channel locks for it to bite and relieved it of its head. We were in his kitchen drinking tea when he suddenly says, "I got something to give to you." He leaves the room and comes back with a Browning Lightning 12 gauge.
The stock had been sawed off and later another piece of a stock reattached. The man who cut the stock off was a short fellow and needed a shorter lop. He was our neighbor when I was a small child and had taken me for my first ride on a Harley when I was about 4 years old. [Earl "Red" Bennett if anyone reading happens to have shot at Wallace, IN or other local venues]
I went out and got half a case of trap loads but I've never gotten around to going to shoot clays with it. I have used in it a turkey shoot a couple times.

while the story may not entice a new buyer, a family story is worth millions.........no matter what the gun looks like 0 -

If the story does not enhance the value....you need to make up a new story.
From an old story teller.
Note: I even took "Story Telling" in college.0 -
While I love a good story and read daily, if you have a gun and a story with no hard proof of provenance, in terms of value you have a gun. And you have a story. Sometimes the story is worth more. 0
