when I was junior in high school had a Suzuki enduro, was headed out to friends house when an oncoming car made a left in front of me, I hit him headon flew over the hood and over a row of mailboxes and landed in someones front yard. the old fellow got out of his car to look at the front of it, I had busted his headlight, he bent the front of my motorcycle almost 90 degrees. he looked my way and said, ' didn't you see me turning" I started to get up to go hit him and fell, looked down and my leg bone was sticking through my jeans, I sat up took off my helmet and started to throw it at him when someone grabbed my arm, told me to lie down and went and kept the guy from leaving, when the cops got there he told them who I was and where I lived, my dad had heart trouble and he even told them to call my sister because of that. to this day I don't know who he was......

Back in the ?80?s, we rode at night, same as day. Liked riding at night in the summer as it was cooler. Never gave a thought to deer strikes. Nowadays, most everyone I know plans to be home at dark.
I know of a few fellow motorcycle riders who?ve hit deer . All but one was disastrous.
Personally, I?ve rode motorcycles since 1970. Had a few close calls but never anything scary.
    Angel on my shoulder.

Been riding street bikes since I was 15 (legal in Fla. @ the time. 1976) Started with a Yamaha RD two stroke.

Unfortunately I have many stories like the above two.

One that comes to mind, was in about 1982. Was on my modified KZ 750, down for the weekend from where I was stationed. (Site R/Raven Rock) W. MD/PA area, to see my girl.

On Sunday afternoon, headed back North - had one of those slow motion Pre-Congnitive events while on the bike. Kinda saw in advance, what was going to happen about 5-10 minutes later. On a curvy two lane State route 91 headed towards Glade Springs, VA to connect with I-81Northbound. I now pass that curve twice a day everyday commuting to work.

Came around a fairly sharp right hand curve with a road joining from the left. Old lady ran the stop sign, and nailed me from my left. Down and sliding. Slid right across the path of a Semi, on the horn. Went off the road, through a 4 strand barbed wire fence. Landed in a cow pasture. Happy to be alive. Major road rash.

Someone had to go get the lady because she was unaware she had hit anything. (?)

One of about 3-4 "I was hit by Old People," stories.

Drove off an off-ramp and noticed a movement to my left, full brake. I get my bike stopped and this Doe bounds right over my faring. I sit there for a few seconds breathing hard and the guy behind me starts honking. I sit there for a few more seconds and the Doe's yearling bounds over the guardrail right in front of me.

My BIL used to ride a lot.

One day he was cruising at the speed limit on a windy road and took a long curve. Just as he cleared the apex so he could see the rest of the curve there was a 6" or better tree limb laying in road.

Don't have the details of what happened but he spent a couple of months in the hospital.

Wife decided he was through riding because they were starting a family. . .

I rode dirt bikes when I was younger. Took a spill one day and was picking things up to get going again and took off helmet to wipe sweat off.

Saw a 1/4" hole in crown. Didn't remember hitting head

I-64, eastbound, coming down Afton Mountain, driving 4 wheeler. Bobtail semi ahead of me. Suddenly see something that looks like a ball bat flipping end over end headed for my windshield. About 10 ft from my front bumper it hit the road on its end, and bounced completely over my car.

Bob tail had just gotten on the interstate from its home base, where it had been in the shop. Some mechanic had left some bolts out of the rear end, and it had dropped a bunch of parts, including the drive shaft that I saw before it bounced over the car.

Definite guardian angel that day- not a mark on me or car. If the shaft had hit the windshield, don't think it would have slowed down as it went thru the car.

I'm pretty sure my guardian angel has a drinking problem.
Like you, I ride and my slightly inebriated GA was definitely on her toes the night I hit a deer on my way to work.
Normally at night I drop my speed by 10, but that night I was running 60 instead of 55. I sometimes wonder.
At any rate, an oncoming car and I topped the hill and we both dimmed our headlights. A couple hundred feet on I took a quick glance down at my speedo and when I looked back up, there she was. A young doe with her head about a foot or so in front of my right hand. The impact was great enough that it literally took my hand off the bar end swinging my arm back behind me. Those who ride know about counter steer as well as the result of a hard jerk to the right bar end. I was On the far fog line when I got her under control and headed back to my side of the road with just one hand on the bars. It's all kinda foggy, but my mind must have been like a squirrel in traffic. I've often wondered what went through the other drivers mind narrowly avoiding a crazed idiot on a motorcycle only to hit a deer just seconds afterward.

The next day I drove the Jeep out there and the doe was still where the sheriff's deputy had drug her off the road. The whole left side of her head was busted up pretty bad along with what the car had done running over her. As for the extent of my damage, everything from my finger tips to my elbow felt like it had been run through a washer wringer, front brake lever slightly bent as well as right bar end plug/screw cap missing and minor damage to the leather of an expensive pair of custom made elk hide gloves.

I don't have any Guardian Angel stories where I was rescued. never going to count on it either.

I was one, once. there was a half nekkid chick in her bra and panties on my back porch. she was crying. went out and asked her if she wanted a blanket. she didn't really answer. so I got a blanket and then asked if she wanted to call the cops? or an ambulance? or what's going on? didn't really answer. so I called the cops. they got there pretty quick and told me they didn't need me anymore. overheard them asking what happened. she said she was walking down the street and two guys (the neighbor and a friend) asked her if she wanted to party and they had weed. she said yes. so they all went to the neighbor's house, smoked some, they said they would sell her some. she didn't have any money. you can guess the rest. but instead of giving it to her, they kicked her out the back door and ran off out the front door down the street with her clothes.

but, since we're talking about hitting stuff on a motorcycle, I have seen quite enough (fatal, non-fatal and all between) and I'm sure many others have seen worse. I'm not going to get on one of those things unless it's a clear open road out in the middle of nowhere and I'm driving slow.

The angels are definitive among us. Gave up on Bikes after the 3rd hit. Mostly old folks not seeing me running stop signs.

There is room to live in a SUV! Especially in todays rat race on the road.

I drove motorcycle most of my life and only had one bad wreck. An illegal who did house painting had a ladder hanging six feet out the back of his station wagon. I was in the right lane doing five under the speed limit, he passed, changed lanes and caught me with the ladder, Flung me and the bike into a street light pole. It would be easier to list the bones I didn't break than the ones I did break.

Most of you guys would freak driving the autobahn in Germany. I used to do 160 MPH legally most days. Never had a wreck, but had a few close calls. At a hundred and sixty, you only get one wreck.

I been riding since 1958 and still am. I've rode in most of the states except the east coast and S.E. part of the US.

In all the years and all the tens of thousands of miles, I've never had a really or scary close call with another vehicle.

As for animals, only once when on a two lane highway, deer came out of the ditch and I swear, actually jumped high enough I drove underneath it or we could have connected.

And that's all I have to say about that.
