The musket that fired the first shot at the Battle of Bunker Hill is being sold by the family of the man who pulled the trigger.
John Simpson's .79 Dutch flintlock musket is expected to fetch up to $300,000.
The soldier ignored an order by Colonel William Prescott to only fire when 'you see the whites of their eyes'.
Instead, Simpson shot his weapon far too early at the Redcoats and was hauled before a court martial after the 1775 battle in Boston in the Revolutionary War.

This is part of our American History and should be preserved................... Maybe after someone shoots it

agree with horse plains, I would have figured a million minimum for something that historic and that well documented.......... 0 -
I read there is some concern about its authenticity. the gun was owned by the soldier, but it has features of a later model Dutch musket. Circa 1790 or so.
Also the genealogy of the soldier has not been connected to U.S. Grant. It will be interesting to see how this all works out.0 -

I find it hard to believe he was the great grandfather of CPT Lewis of the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-1806, but only the grandfather of GEN then POTUS U.S. Grant. 0 -
If he was court martialed the "real" weapon would have been confiscated and used elsewhere.........as always been said "buy the weapon, not the story" .0 -
