Info on old Musket
I found this old musket at a flea market. I believe it is a Harpers Ferry 1836 flintlock that has been converted to percussion. The top rear of the barrel has the number73 and the top of the tang has the number 1036 or 1836. The rear of the lock is marked HARPERS over FERRY over 1836. Just in front of the hammer the lock is marked with an eagle over US.There is no rear sight and the front sight appears to be missing the blade. The barrel measures 42 inches and the bore measures 0. 695. Any info & approximate value will be appreciated.

After the C*I*V*I*L W*A*R, all the old muzzle loaders were sold off as surplus. Many were converted to inexpensive shotguns, for the western expansion. This is what you have. IMHO it has no historical value. Best to part it out. The lock and other original military parts. Might be of some value to restorers? 0 -

It started life as a Model 1816 musket but only has value as a parts gun now.

I've seen rusted up old wall hangers that don't have any legible markings bring more than a similar gun that functions. It is possible you could find someone who would pay more than sum of the value of the parts. 0 -
Thanks to all. It is sold. 0
