    After the C*I*V*I*L W*A*R, all the old muzzle loaders were sold off as surplus. Many were converted to inexpensive shotguns, for the western expansion.This is what you have. IMHO it has no historical value. Best to part it out. The lock and other original military parts. Might be of some value to restorers?

    It started life as a Model 1816 musket but only has value as a parts gun now.

    I've seen rusted up old wall hangers that don't have any legible markings bring more than a similar gun that functions. It is possible you could find someone who would pay more than sum of the value of the parts.
