Sleep Study -
In my room getting ready to get plugged in to tbe various sensors etc. Hope they can determine what is going on with my lack of sleep.
I'm not sure I will get any sleep at all tonight. I am such a light sleeper to begin with, being in a strange place and no sleep medication of any type.
It is about an hour past my bedtime, so I am somewhat sleepy. I hope I can fall asleep, and not lie awake all night long.
Wish me luck.

I can not think of another scenario less conducive to getting a good nights sleep. Nasal monitors, (2) a finger O2 monitor, etc. Every time I turned over, I was tangled up. Good stuff.
When I got home, I let my dog outside, got him back in, had him curl up on the bed beside me, (very comforting.) and slept from 6 -8:45 am.
Way looking forward, to tonight. Some sleep, I hope.
SO looking forward to trying to get some sleep, this evening. Wiped out.
Any Updates Ken?
Slept really good last night. For a welcome change. Probably due to what a miserable night I endured on Thurs. pm.
Will not get any results for "10 days."
Thanks for asking SamMan.

Ken, if the doc writes a scrip for a machine, make sure you get a ResMed AirSense10 Autoset. Don't let them prescribe a cheapo fixed pressure machine that doesn't collect data.
Your insurance will cover either, don't let them tell you otherwise. The DMEs (durable medical equipment) providers make more money when they pass out fixed pressure/no data machines, so of course, they will try to do that unless your scrip specifies an 'auto ranging' machine.
With the above machine, and an easily obtained software program, you can pretty much control your own therapy if you want to be involved. Good luck!0 -

Thanks Marc, I am copying that to my files/notes. I appreciate the advice/input.0 -
Ken ask you doctor about certaline and it's ability to regulate sleep...
Primarily it's an anti depressants or anti anxiety med but they noticed it has a great impact on regulating sleep and maintaining good rem sleep...
Also it helps regulate heart rate and breathing while asleep - it helps maintain and establish normal rhythmic patterns.
Even a trial can't hurt - were ambian and lunesta failed this helped me a great deal along with melatonin and dyhpenhydramine...
I literally slept like 48 hours deep restful healthy rem cycle sleep with good dreams and no breathing issues - then it leveled out and began to work well.
I have cut out lorazepam and atavan since taking it.
My doc trys it out on many patients with serious sleep issues and is having success.
And I don't believe it's addictive.
I think you have your ducks in a row and have done your due diligence and are headed in the right direction but this might be of great help.
I had never heard of it before.

Mike,
You piqued my interest with "certaline".
I can best equate a CPAP to an insurance approved torture device.
But, when I searched "certaline", the only thing that came up was "sertraline" (zoloft, of the prozac family).
Can you steer me in the right direction?
Or, am I there?0 -
Yes it's a generic anti depressant that has the effect of improving sleep greatly - I never get the spelling right.

I was snoring horrible and restless all night. Lay in ben watching the clock every 1/2 hour so I was only dozing and completely awake every 1/2 hour. I got up to urinate 2 to three times per night.
Got the sleep test and a cpap and hated it. Test showed the amount I was not breathing was off the charts. I went for another two years without using it. Then got sick. Pneumonia like symptoms, horrible cough, lethargic. The pulmonologist took one look at me and said I was going to have a heart attack and die if I didn't start using my cpap.
Got a new mask for the cpap so I was comfortable and now I cannot sleep without it. I am not exaggerating when I say I go to sleep and sleep a solid 8 hours without waking or getting up.
I have also noticed an improvement in my memory and work performance.
The VA has very nice machines and masks. My non VA friends and family don't get equipment nearly as nice.0 -
I am an Army Veteran, but have never once gone to the VA for anything. I need to get registered and go. The one in Johnson City, TN. Has a very good reputation. (My Dad is buried there.) 0 -
"Last night was a long, long night. Being in an uncomfortable (15-20 wires with leads taped all over, two nose monitors, etc.) and in a strange environment - it took me much longer to initially fall asleep. (1.5 - 2 hrs.) It was further complicated by an overnight bout of diarrhea. (Perfect.) Had to get up 3 times overnight to deal with that. Having to get disconnected each time in order to do so. :? "
I'm no doctor but I can give you your test results immediently.
Sir, you do not have a sleep disorder interrupting your nightly slumber, you have a pooping problem. You must eleminate Tacos from your diet.
I will be sending your bill out in the morning mail.
BTW: I picked up a slightly used CPAP machine back during the summer. I found it in a yard sale in Neva. It had been used only for 2 weeks by a 91- year old lady who strangled to death on the cord.
Her husband, a retired doctor, (he was the administrator of the Neve University Hospital for 12-years before he retired), set the adjustments for me and promised I would feel better within a few weeks.
Not only do I feel younger but I noticed my white hair is beginning to darken and I am more "frisky", if you get my meaning.
I have lost 18 pounds and my clothes no longer fit.
The only complaint I have is, the cord is too short. When I get frisky and start chasing the wife, I quickly run out of cord and get jerked off my feet.
This huge throbbing knot on the back of my head is keeping me awake nights.0 -
Have crashed early the two nights since the sleep study. Slept from 6 am until 8:45am the morning after. Went to sleep about 6-6:30 pm Fri. night. Went to sleep about 5:45 pm last night. (Sat.) Plan on going to sleep early again tonight. (By 8pm.)
I have to get up at 4:20am to go to work 5-6 days a week. Last few days since the miserable Thurs. night "sleep study," have been gravy.
You do not appreciate what you have, until you are deprived of it.0 -
I understand Ken.
I get up at 5AM M-F, and consider myself lucky if I get 5 hours sleep. My lack of sleep is not due to sleep apnea, although I have a cpap,....mine is because of chronic back and neck pain that won't let me stay in bed long enough.
Sleep deprivation sucks, no matter the cause.0
