I stopped by the Bass Pro in Clarksville today, had to take the last train. I looked over some of the Tracker equipment. They did not have the OX 400 on the floor. The salesman told me they can't keep them in stock. The OX 400 is selling well. There were other models there. Just to look at them they look solid enough for the use you intend. I did notice a person may want to secure the front brake lines better on a couple of models but wouldn't be an issue on the OX 400. That is the only thing that really jumped out at me. However I really don't spend much time around equipment of this sort, so keep that in mind.
I spoke with the salesman and explained why I was checking them out, he was helpful, after all he's a salesman.
Bass Pro used to carry Artic Cat equipment. Textron bought Artic Cat. Textron made some changes (what exactly I don't know) and markets these vehicles under the Tracker name at a lower starting price. The engines are made in Georgia, that's Georgia USA. The OX 400 has a 13.5 hp air cooled pressurized oiled engine, 23" Tires, rear wheel mechanical drum brakes (self adjusting), speed of 16.5mph, continuous variable transmission, forward and reverse, outside turning radius 23.5 feet. The bed has a 500 lb rating with gas piston assisted manual dumping.
It has a 2 year warranty.
The Mechanical drum brakes instead of 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes probably helps keep cost down. But the top end isn't that high to start with.
Out the door cost on this unit here in Indiana is $6600.93. That includes 7% Indiana sales tax, tittle, document, and freight charges.
Edit: Forgot to include that Bass Pro provides maintenance and sells parts.

Except for the fact, it is made by Can-Am. Has a 401cc engine, posi-trak rear, off road tires, lifted suspension, 500 lbs, assisted dump bed, a 2" hitch, and has a 1200lbs. towing capacity. Yeah, that sounds like a "Golf Cart."

I went by the local Farm Store to look at the American Landmaster. I ended up buying the Landstar LS677EPS for $8050 after the instant rebate. It's a 4x4 with a 21 HP Kohler V-Twin, power steering, hydraulic brakes, etc. and is serviced locally by people I know. After comparing the different companies & models, I felt this was the best deal for what I need. During a test drive, I went thru the woods & up a steep hill & the 4x4 never kicked in. I pick it up on Monday & will give a report on it. They do offer a 400 series which is 2wd for less. 0 -

I watched a video on these Ken and it looks like a beefed up Golf Cart to me. I guess it would do fine around a house but as a trail Rig it might leave a little to be desired. I guess on trails that are not too steep or rough it would be OK. 0 -

While I appreciate your input Sam, that is about all I require - for it's intended use. Riding the dog, and I around. Primarily 7 mile paved holler road, 1 mile gravel side road (where I live.) and moderate terrain trails. I've been way back up in the boonies in my Jeep - 8000 acre Doe Mtn. Recreation area accessed about 2/10ths mile from my house. Not looking to tackle the rough terrain side trails. Main trails would be no problem.
I will probably end up putting the $$ in to my house, so it is fairly acedemic. While I would love to have one, my $$ is best utilized elsewhere before I retire.
I may still pull it off. Have about 3/4 of the cash on hand now, to put down on one. (But) Would let home repair/maintenance slide, if doing so. Nothing super pressing. Can pay for it next year.
What fun is retirement/working hard your whole life, if you can not enjoy it though? I need to have some fun/Toys.
I have enough stuff to sell, (BMW F650 dual sport, decked out in high end touring accessories, etc) to more than pay for it.

I am very close to the "debt free." Will have that done in 6 months or so. I have a lot of stuff I can part with, for $$ to bring in additional income/funds. Just need to get it done.

I picked up the Landstar today & it is good. Runs well on dirt, gravel & through the woods. There is a 2wd with either a 14 hp Kohler or 16 hp B&S - 400 series that starts at $5350 ( after rebate.) Some Tractor Supply stores can order them or maybe there's a local dealer in your area. 0 -
I absolutely love my Honda Rancher 420, so am partial to Honda for ATV's. I have my eye on the Honda 500cc side by side in the future so I could take the wife on trail rides. We rode one in NC on an offroad adventure deal and they seem to take a beating and do darn well on rutted and rocky mountain trails.
I am not familiar with the OX400 other than viewing it online. Price point is definitely competitive but it does look like more of a light trail unit.
I am highly against buying the chinese stuff they sell in the farm stores. Been around motorcycles/ATV's my whole life and seen many brands of them come and go. The cheap price upfront doesn't make up for when parts/support are no longer available and no resale value.0 -
I called Landmaster with a question on the Landstar 677 & only waited 5 minutes. I was pleased when an AMERICAN answered the phone & spoke ENGLISH without an accent. To top that off, she was personable, knew her products & answered the question with no problem.
I did have one small problem tho, one of the plastic windshield brackets was broken. I brought it to the dealer who replaced it without question. He said that Landmaster has sent him extras at no charge. Obviously they know there's a problem & are handling it. So far, I'm pleased with it.0 -

Was unfamiliar with the Landmaster series of machines. I like the American made aspect, (like Textron.) I am looking at the 450TWE. Entering my zip brings a price of $6499. (No mention of an "instant rebate.") I will call Tractor Supply for more info.
I like dealing with Tractor Supply, as a Co. They have been good/stand up with me.
Have been researching this brand/machine, since I got home.
