Many, many years ago, when these "things" were first introduced I picked up a new pickup truck in Portland and drove it to OKC on a business trip.
Late one night I stopped for fuel at a crossroads in Kansas. Across the lot of the gas station was a McD with a banner advertising their new creation. So I bought one.
CHOPPED CARDBOARD SOAKED IN BBQ SAUCE! BAD BBQ SAUCE!

My stomach revolted and my taste buds refused passage.
I sat the "thing" on the center seat until I could locate a trash can.

A dallop of that sauce dropped on the seat. Even though I promptly wiped it off an ugly stain remained.

The next day, in OKC, I picked up some upholstery cleaner but that crap was a permenant stain. I tried several different cleaners but that stain was still there 10 years later when I traded-in the truck.

I wonder what was in that sauce and if it stains a person's innards?

BTW: I have only eaten at McD one time, since that night many years ago and that time I seriously thought I was going to "diarrhea" my self to death. I was driving from Fairbanks to Anchorage and I left my "mark" in every outhouse along the Parks Highway.

I tried one when they first came out back in 1981. I have to say, without exaggerating, that was the worse sandwich I've ever tried to eat. That thing was nasty!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the "meat" is made of whatever was left throughout the year from all the other chit they made. Don't even want to think what the sauce is made of.

they were awesome back in '88. ate one every chance I got. with extra sauce and onions. next time they came back and ever since, they were tasteless cardboard soaked in tasteless bbq sauce in a tasteless doughy bun with pickles. they ARE awful, they WERE awesome x 100 at one time.

    Lament of the McRib

    O McRib, McRib,
    Where hast thou gone?

You were the only meat and sauce
To put my pickles and onions on!

Was it a horrid twist of events,
Or a fateful turn of the stars

That made you cheapened your ingredients
To bilk profits from drive-thru cars?

    Until you restore your greatness
    I can't ponder such a thing

So I'm having to take my business
    To your neighbor, Burger King.

I watched a video of how they are made. The guy from Mythbusters and some brother took a tour of the factory where they make the meat patties.

They are made from boneless pork shoulder(Boston butt), they grind it up add some salt and spices then form it into the pattie, so its just a ground pork sandwich with BBQ sauce on it.
