years ago had an older fellow raise watermelons and then sell em out of his pickup...had a lot stolen...when i worked for a K state ag experiment farm we raised plots of corn ,some cucumbers, cantalope, and watermelon... and people would come out of town at night and strip the plots even when we had sprayed with chemicals sign up...ruined the variety data results....

Had to go out of State overnight about 6 years ago at the job I was at, in order to pick up some critical parts.

Only time since moving in, I had been gone overnight. (Had been in my home about 3-4 years by then.)

When I got back, my Peach trees had been stripped of 2-300 ripe peaches.

Pretty much knew who had done it, no proof though.

we just had something similar here in Arkansas,,in the middle of the night someone raided an 8 acre pumpkin patch and stole about 4000 pumpkins,, the harvest crew showed up to pick and the entire crop was already gone..

Back when I had the farm I had a corn field on the far side of the place on a blind road. Field corn is only good for a very short time for table use. I drove over that way one morning and saw about a pickup load of husks. Not only did they steal it, they cleaned it right there. I think I know who got it, their reputation preceded them. They never planted a garden, no need.
