Great read
I re-read a book I read in the 70's.
Then I watched the movie, the movie was good but it didn't follow the book very close but still both were fun.
It was Fredrick Forsyth's 3rd book..................................
The Dogs Of War
What was interesting to me was how they set everything up and the details of how they kept security in the days before cell phones, The EU, computers and electronic control of passports.
Christopher Walken was perfect for the lead and did a great job.

I have read the book multiple times. (Part of my extensive "Classics" paperback collection, established over the years.) Used to be a prodigious reader. Failing eyesight, got the best of me. Now that I've had multiple eye surgeries, I need to pick them back up.
I need to bust out my boxes in the outdoor shed and send you a couple you probably have not read, but would thoroughly enjoy. (One in particular,) forget if it is called the "Five Fingers" or the "Seven fingers." (Sorry, I can not remember.) Special Forces team in Vietnam. (Anyone ever read it?) Correct me on the Title please.

I read it years ago.
I am also a "prodigious" reader. All the time in the Army Hurry up and wait, hours and hours spent on the ramp waiting on a bird or the word. Best use for a cargo pocket is to carry a book.0 -
Same here, I usually have at least two going at one time and always one in my gear bag. 'Getting ready to get ready' and 'Standing by to stand by' become the norm. My house is loaded with book cases and there are several hundred more (hardback and paper) in storage containers. I've tried the electronic book offerings but it just isn't the same without, I suppose, the tactile feel of turning a page. 0 -
I used to read a lot. Then tv and the internet took over. I?d read fb posts and got away from reading anything of length or substance. Short, quick reads of a sentence or two, then scroll...
However, I downloaded an app called overdrive and listed to audiobooks whenever I?m on a drive. Helps the time pass.
I also recently discovered one of those small ?take one leave one? libraries at a coffee shop. Now I have a morning read with a real book. Nothing beats holding the book and flipping the pages, using a dollar bill as a bookmark.0 -
I just started another book I read years ago(30), its called Never So Few and they also made a movie based on the book. The movie stars Frank Sinatra and Steve McQueen.
I found a bunch of my old book when I was cleaning out my Dads house and I brought them home.0 -

I was a paramedic when that book came out. We medics always were skipping from one job to another, one day my buddy got hired in Savannah to be the helicopter medic, another guy went off to work on the ambulance in Saudia Arabia, for big bucks. We would work for anybody, if the money was right.

How about The Devils Guard? It is a semi fictional account of an ex-Nazi unit of the French Foreign Legion fighting in the late 40's to the late 50's in Vietnam. This book at one time was banned in the US. The first copy I read was purchased in Canada.0 -

The Devils Guard, I've been wracking my brain to remember the name, I read that one years ago.
Didn't realize it had been banned in the US, but the copy I read was given to me by an Aussie or a Kiwi that I was working with at the time.
Interesting read.

Yes great!! The more the merrier. Speaking of Ken, do you have any large print books with lots of pictures for him?? No big three syllable words please. He loves the ones with the fold out things and books about trucks and trains. 0 -

Mule you can get the book in the states now. I think it started getting published in the uS in 1999
Ken I cannot help you on the books Ricci wants me to get for you but do have some old army TM's for weapons and NVGs maint I think the Army writes them at a 6th Grade level so MP's and MI can understand them0 -
Ricci/Sam, I like the "Pop Up," books with the 3 dimensional (2 dimensional ?) Thingee that "Pops Up."
Those things are so scary, and add drama to the "See Spot Run," series. So lifelike. Kinda like a "Jack in the Box," I jump and am surprised, every time. :shock:
Usually I have to put the book down, and go collect myself for further drama.
I usually go have a Taco, and try and calm myself.
