I have ran into two or three like that in my later years. One was a prick who married a girl I used to date. He was always surly around me. She later left his butt. When I saw him, he was all buddy buddy but I noticed he?d had a leg removed. Two time loser, I actually felt sorry for him.
    For about 5 seconds.

    Karma is a ____________

    - but sometimes she is awful busy . . . so you gotta help her out when you can.

Generally, all you have to do is let somebody know "Karma can't see you today, but she sends her regards.".

    ;)

    Perfect reply Sir.

Why pretend, or beat around the bush?

Would have (personally) done exactly, as you did. Good on you Sir.

    Well done.

what I don't get is they knew they were being an asshat when they were being an asshat (which is to put you down) but now they walk up and think you're going to be all friendly with them?

    bizarre

yes that has happened to me a few times, never did go along with it.

Had a sargent in the Air Force (stationed in Alaska) that was a genuine A-H. No managerial skills, no personality, no diplomacy, just a obnoxious big-mouth a-h from New York.

Everyone hated and avoided him as much as possible.

My best friend and I (both young GI's) were discussing Bud (what he called himself) when a nice old timer in our shop asked, "Now fellows, its 10 below out there...don't tell me that on the way home tonight - you see Bud's truck broke down by the road, you wouldn't stop?

Mike quickly replied, " Hell yeah, I'd stop! Get out of my car, get down on my knees and pray for 40 below!"

I will reply with hello type pleasantries, but yeah, if the person you didn't like then wants to get together or hang out. It is time to say your thoughts. I worked with a guy that looked me up after I had moved 200 miles from there. I don't know how he got my phone number, probably from the company office, but I said Billy Bob (real first and middle name), I didn't like you when we got paid to work together. Why would I go out of my way to see you now?

He was an odd guy. He had a masters degree, yet had worked in a pet food plant for 30+ years, but still tried to act superior to every one of the uneducated peasants around him.

A guy I worked with and I were standing on the street out side a restaurant after having lunch one day and this guy walked up and started to have a conversation with my friend. My friend, instead of saying anything, just leaned over and spat on the guys shoes. The guy just turned and walked away. I said what was that all about? I can't remember if he said he was his captain or LT or what rank he was, but it was his superior when he was in the Army reserves and according to my friend he was a real ass hole. I always thought that was one of the funniest things I had ever witnessed. :D

Glad I work nights so that limits running in to people from my past, I say maybe about 1 in 10 years? Being 6'3" Japo I guess that's why I stick out in their memory.

I avoid obvious disgust and hatred if I can and usually the stage has already been set to avoid any unnecessary pleasantries later.
