Retired Lifer's Vets to lose Arlington Burials
The Government is running out of space up there,and now say only cremation spots will be available for all veterans.

I've posted about this here before. It still leaves me PO'd/angry.
My Dad was a 32 year Lifer. Army ABN/CSM. WWII, Korea, Vietnam. His wish was to be buried in Arlington. He deserved to be buried in Arlington.
After he passed, my Mom discovered there was an 8 month backlog/delay for Veterans being interred in Arlington. My Mom, discovered it would take/cost apprx. $2K per month to keep my Dad prior to burial. Sorry, that does not work.
He is buried at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Johnson City, TN. Full Military honors at burial.
Although I was touched and humbled at the ceremony at my Dads funeral, I am still mad about the Arlington situation.0 -
I am apathetic to this. Maybe Arlington should be reserved for Service members who have earned a Silver Star or higher award in Combat.
Me, after I am dead I told my wife to leave me at the morgue and let them deal with my corpse, or cremate me and dump my ashes in a dumpster I damn sure won't care. No headstones no markers. For a memorial buy a round at the SF Club at Bragg and the NCO club at Camp Merrill.0 -
As Sam said, it sure as shootin' won't matter to me what happens to my leftovers. I still qualify for Arlington, but have told the family that they needn't push for it - if only to save themselves the travel expenses. I'm going the "Burn and Urn" route, and would not mind a bit if the ashes get surreptitiously dumped on my favorite golf course. Or landfill, compost heap, tomato patch...wherever. 0 -
Dad is in Arlington, cremated. Mom is supposed to go next to him.
I told the wife when I'm ashes just toss em anywhere ashes to ashes and all that.0 -
we have a vets spot in the local cemetery.....and with the way many now DISRESPECT AMERICA ...those that served with honor and/or sacrifice DESERVE to be interred in a place that they have earned if so desired....AND THANKS to the PATRIOT GUARD riders that showed up on a bitter cold day and lined with flags around a vets service here one winter....impressive 0
