hit by copper thieves
after work yesterday I went downstairs to wash my clothes.
what the heck?
looked up at the plumbing.
looked over at the hot water heaters.
at the other end of the basement the water main had been cut too.
aint that peachy. now I don't have water upstairs either. until this gets fixed.

Ten or so years ago, my SIL, who is a finish carpenter showed up on a Monday to continue work on a complex of town houses.
He had taken his miter saw, compressor and other tools home on Friday to do some other small jobs over the weekend.
He and the other contractors arrived and all tools that had been left were gone, along with the other contractors tool trailer, as was all the wiring, outlets, switches, lighting and copper plumping. Some stuff ripped right through the newly installed sheet rock.
Really trashed the units.
No culprit ever found, we always figured due to the large scope of it that it was an inside job.
I hate thieves.

maintenance guy out here fixing it. asked him how much he thought they got for the copper. he estimated maybe 10 bucks. shook his head. 0 -
I bet if you told those thieves:
? Hey, guys, I?ll pay you $50 an hour. I?ve got this house that needs new plumbing. All you have to do is saw out some old copper pipe. You can even keep the copper. Take as long as you want.?

A few points to ponder.
Ho many of us know personally a contractor sitting on a truckload of copper fittings and pipe and wire "scrap" taken from jobsites and considered a retirement fund (non taxable)
Have any of you lived across from an active housing construction sight - I have and it's a non stop drive through for thrives
Many tweezers or hood rats don't have much to do all day except get high and play play station and steal stuff - it adds up and they work in teams
You can place an order for all the construction supplies you need from soup to nuts to build a whole subdivision and they will steal it for you and deliver it to you and even offer to install it - professional crews from south of the border
As noted much gets shipped overseas asap
If you left your tools at a job site in the last 40 years you asked for it to be stolen

maintenance guy got it fixed. him and the same helper has been with the landlord for 20 years. probably 60 years old. short guy covered with old school biker tattoos, they grew and now they're all the way down to his fingertips. inner city type of guy, grew up in the Belly of the Beast and never knew anything else. knew a few of those back where I came from. different breed of people. they have character. wish I could have got some pics but that's a bit creepy.
when I called the landlord that night he (maintenance guy) came out to look at the damage. he was pissed, came out of the truck with a gun in his hand. (it was night time) we talked about guns for a bit, he had a Glock 23, I showed him the Glock 27 I had on me at the time. he had a triple bypass surgery, then they had to go back in and put several stents in the arteries, and he has hepatitis that damaged his liver. he'll keep going till he drops I guess. said he woulda liked to shoot the sumbitches. told him if I catch one in the house and they get shot, I'll call him up so he can get some too. he laughed at that.
they worked all day yesterday and today getting it done. was talking to him out in his truck at one point and he was fiddling with a revolver. showed it to me. nice nickel plated S&W 357 Magnum. said it's his favorite, he can really shoot it. said a friend of his had it in the pawn shop forever, sold him the pawn ticket for 50 bucks, went down there to pay it off and discoverd there was only 10 bucks left on it. so he got it for 60 bucks. later on I went downstairs and showed him the G22 with the 5.3" LW barrel. he liked that.

I always get a good chuckle whenever I read a bout a copper thief getting electrocuted when they try to steal some copper wiring. 0 -
l installed 4'' copper gutters/downspouts on the last house l lived in around 1996 and sold it in 2007. lts a nice 2 story brick located on a corner lot in the city.. Really in a high traffic area in plain view for all to see... After almost 24yrs l cant believe those gutters haven't been stolen... 30ft of 4'' half round soft copper gutters along with 50ft of 4'' round copper downspouts must easily weigh 100 pounds 0 -

I have a few electrician in the family and they have barrels full of copper. Save every single piece of scrap wire.
They used to burn to clean it but built a wire stripping machine.0
