If true, I wonder if Norwegian will still use Seattle as their homeport terminal for Alaska cruises. When we took that cruise (it is truly superb, btw) they took us by bus directly from the airport to the cruise terminal. And then back again afterwards. 0 -

just heard this discusion on talk radio while on my way to the VA the other day, one of our larger cities, Morgantown home of WVU, was having a public hearing on the issue, one of the callers said he could clear the problem up for less than $500 per person. Atlanta had the summer Olympics in 1996. We had lots of homeless. The City rounded 'em up, and put 'em on the Greyhound, for Asheville, for Chattanooga, for Knoxville. Gave 'em a hundred dollar bill and told them to not come back. 0 -

Seattle is about to spend millions of dollars doing the same thing. There is virtually no jail time in Seattle for small amounts of any illegal drugs. Seattle PD has been neutered. I haven?t been over on the Seattle side in a few years. We are going in October. I?ll be keeping my head on a swivel.0 -

I took Psychology in college. Behavior that is rewarded, will be increased. Behavior that is punished, will subside, and go extinct.
Seattle pampers homeless, the word gets out, and they flock to the town. I don't think they multiply too much they are too old, sick and doped up to breed much.
But in Tennessee they bolt big blocks to the benches so they can't sleep there, and they move on to another town.
I must say, one big aspect of this problem is, the closing of state mental institutions. As some have said, many of the homeless are mentally ill. When I was a kid in Georgia, we had the State Mental Institution in Milledgeville. As late as 1990, there were 19,000 patients there. Huge campus, they had their own in house hospital, many huge old brick buildings for dorms etc.
But in about 1980, Geraldo Rivera did an expose on the State Institution in New York. He had a camera crew in there and they disclosed a lot of problems, cute retard 18 year old girls getting raped, etc.
So, the state of NY closed the place. Said that the mentally retarded had "rights."
It took a while, but today the Institution in Milledgeville has closed. 19,000 retards put out onto the street.
