I doubt there are any patents that lived that long. I wonder if it could be produced with modern methods and using synthetics to be a viable high power, larger caliber air rifle.

    Nice read. :ugeek:

I was blessed with the opportunity to handle a Lewis and Clark expedition manual hand pump refill integral pressure reservoir large diameter bore air rifle / musket...

It was part of a display of artifacts including a stuffed prairie dog and the travel vessel / transport container used to contain liquid mercury that was part of the treatment for gonorrhea and other brutal sexually transmitted diseases - used to sanitize and cleanse open sores associated with the outbreak and open sores - STD's were a huge problem for the expedition...

I hand loaned an institute a Rollin White and a Henry derringer and a Thule and a c. Sharps and a cupfire set of handguns...

    Amazing.

I have to wonder why. It would seem they were in remote areas without brothels and such. I wonder if it was with the natives, or if some people brought along and shared it among the group somehow.

North America at the time of the expedition was heavily populated with numerous tribes and people's / nations...

The members of the expedition were spreading the love and diseases across the land and the populace with great aplomb..

At least that's what I have read.
