A lot of parts in a tiny package.
Latest project. Full (at least to my eyes) rebuild on a Carter W-O carburetor, circa 1944.
You know, for a carburetor that looks like it would be good for all of 14 CFM, I swear they crammed enough stuff into one to rebuild 2 Holley 850 double pumpers. :shock: Interestingly, according to the reprinted 1945 manual that came with the parts, the complete carb, new, had a list price back then of $12, but you could deduct $2 from the price if you turned in your old carburetor as a core.

Fingers crossed, stars aligned, and all parts going where they should, it should come out looking something like this when I'm done.

Even for a 70+ year old Jeep that probably spent most of its life outside on a ranch, dodging uncured cowboy frisbees, it looks pretty rough, to be honest. A good portion of the tub is rotted out, and the worst is under the tool box and gas tank. Oddly enough, minus the slight carb issue, the engine purrs like a kitten. I only have to worry about fixing the carb, and my experience with bodywork amounts to being able to look at a fender, and think "yep, that's a fender, alright".

I am a body repair hack learn as I go , but have replaced or repaired most all panels on a few cars and trucks . no where even in the same ball park as a true body repair person . a skill I would like to have among other's

I recently bought a (non-running) generator at an auction. Got it home and (surprise) a lot of crap in the gas tank and carb. A rebuild kit for the carb cost about $15, complete new carb cost $22 (amazon/prime). 2 bolts and done

My first car was a 1971 Dodge Dart (Swinger) with the 318 V-8 and whatever 2 barrel carb came with it from the factory.
Was a rough starting engine when I bought the car, and so I decided to rebuild the carb. 10 hours later (I was 17 or 18 at the time) and with one check valve ball left over, the started but ran rough. Another 4 hours and I had found a hole for the ball. Car started and ran fine, but the rebuild cost me 10 - 15% in gas mileage.
When the '56 T-bird started acting up, I decided to forego the carburetor and had a throttle body fuel injection system put on it.
After the change over, the (original) 312 purrs like a kitten. Kept the original intake manifold and carb for resale value, but I do not see myself driving a carbureted vehicle again.0 -

The old gaskets, while dry, came right off, surprisingly enough. I figured I'd be scraping gasket material for hours, but hey, you win one once in a while, huh? Going a lot easier than I expected, which is refreshing.
Note they are supposed to look like this. It's a pair of gaskets on either side of an insulator, which is sandwiched between the main body and throttle body.
They are not, however, supposed to look like this. I think I'll title this pic "Well there's your problem". New gaskets ought to solve the cascade of fuel that used to pour out on to the exhaust manifold. :?
Finally, it's really no wonder why the accelerator pump just sat there and did nothing, huh? :?

I would guess some on here could relate to leaking gaskets and a accelerator pump not working

Great. You just ruined it. That wasn't a leak, it was the afterburner. Duh!
