Advise on listing ammo.

I have a bunch of ammo that I need to get listed and wanting to know the best way to do it to get top $$$ and to get it gone.

Do I list it by the box or by the lot. I.e. I have 14 boxes of the same federal 7mm WSM.

Will a penny auction bring any money on ammo?

I have 40 boxes of 7mm WSM To list in 5 different manufacturers or bullet weights. Do I list all 40 in a lot or do I break the lots up by brand and bullet type/weight

    The cost of shipping a single box of ammo is so high (ammo can't be mailed) that unless it is rare or collectable, it makes sense to sell ammo in lots of several boxes.

    the more you break it up into different auctions, the more time & effort you put into selling/payment/shipping. I would keep them together as much as possible even if it means a little less money and takes longer to sell.

    if it was me? 7mm is 7mm, put all 40 boxes of 7mm together. might consider doing that large lot of 14 Federal's separately.

    One of the things I look for on the auction side is lots of ammunition. I have got some really good deals in ammunition doing this. I bought IIRC, about 1100 rounds on 300 wsm and 1400 rounds of ,243 win that I recall right now. I bought these lots of ammo at about 33% of retail price when you did the average per box, some premium stuff and some basic cup and core. The thing is most people buying ammo can't, or won't, pony up enough cash for lots of ammo that large.


    My point is, you will get more money for your ammo if you break it into smaller lots, maybe 100 rounds each, than if you try to sell 40 boxes at a time. You can offer combined shipping if they buy more than one auction. Set price it fairly and it will sell.

    sell it local, you may take less but no shipping/hassle costs. table at gun show would probubly be same amount as shipping on one auction........ your choice though

    what he said .. most guys know what manufacturer or bullet weights they want or that their gun likes , they don't want to buy a mixed lot just to get a few boxes of their kind and end up having to sell the rest off

    right, but if you divide it up by mfr... you have bullet weights you don't care for.

    if you divide it up by bullet weight... you have mfrs you don't care for.

    IIRC, when you make an auction you can set it up so that they are bidding per box, but there are multiple boxes available. I've done it in the past, but just can't remember how to list it that way. I would do it that way, and make auctions for each bullet weight. Put your shipping as "actual postage" and let 'er go...JMO..
