Ortho Home Defense spray. You can find it at Home Depot. Should be named Silence is Golden...no more crickets.

Between the house cat and the ferret and the hedgehog crickets have a short lifespan inside the house or garage on on the porch or in the basement...

While one expects a cat to do the work and assumes a ferret is on the job the amazing assassin is the hedgehog - he is death on crickets and morphs from an amusing bumbling fun pet to a lightning quick deliverer of death...

And they seem to understand that their "job" as part of the family or pack is to quickly eradicate such interlopers...

Plus the hedgehog will eat them.

Around here the cricket's are ablaze with their "music" all night long! I personally find their "symphony" very relaxing and they also subdue a lot of that continuous high pitched turmoil called tinnitus that plagues me 24\7.

Just like that old scene from Pee Wee's big adventure where the biker gang is about to stab him, shoot him, kill him, and then hang him. I would be that little squeaky mouse in the corner saying " I say we let him go!"

    Poor lil cricket!!

I hear them all the time .........but it's all in my head [tinnitus]

edit = I spelled it "here" rather than "hear" - pretty serious error for a member of the Grammar Police.

I too have light tinnitus. Nothing probably like yours however. I also really like the sound of crickets FROM A DISTANCE. When I am inside and they are outside, it muffles them enough that I like them. I guess it is like Cicadas in the regard. Those things can sometimes be deafening outside at our rural place in OK, but inside, it is just part of the sounds of summer.

Like the sound of gunfire and sirens and bass thumping rap music and car alarms and ambulances in Chicago - the soothing background noise and soundtrack of the ghetto lifestyle...

Rocking you to sleep like a lullaby.

As long as its background noise and not focused on you personally.

Crime scene tape and shell casing count markers and bodies outlined in chalk and pop up third world country tribute to the dead - stuffed animals and malt liquor and balloons and flowers and target street art...

A Norman Rockwell meets Dante's inferno painting.

    Sigh.

My Terriers eat anything that crawls or flies, few bugs of any sort in my house. I've watched them snap up Flies in mid-air and wolf down spiders jiffy quick. And once they get fixated on whatever they are hunting they don't give up. They have two speeds, hyper and sleep.

It would be difficult to select one from the thousands that I hear constantly.

My parents have a Welsh cardigan corgis pure bred AKC registered papered retired bitch adopted out from a nationally recognized breeder - approx 12 years old...

She makes a terrific ratter and will hunt down rodents and mice and vermin with much aplomb and ferocious focused skill...

My mother's father always raised cardigan corgis - and two uncles were stewards of the breed their entire lives...

They are hell on insects as well.

Have not found him yet, but his days are numbered. He has laid pretty low and quiet the last two nights.

Sure way to eliminate a cricket is to set out a cap full of beer.

don't ask me why, the soon afterwards, no cricket 'chirping' will be heard again.

When you catch him, remove one leg and throw it out the front door, throw the other leg out the back door, then squish the cricket on your sidewalk to warn the other crickets. Take no chances! :D
I don't know if there is anything worse then a cricket in a house! Maybe a Mother in Law, but thats about it!
