My USPSA Carry Optic gun is built!
I am moving from Open division into carry optic primarily to compete with my friend ls here in Florida. In TX most of my friends were running an open guns- here I have fallen in with guys shooting carry optic, so needed this to have a level playing field.
So I built this to my own preferences.
Gen5 Glock 34 (9mm)- the gen5 is lefty friendly and has a small (but important) magwell built in & factory front serrations.
On top is a Trijicon SRO with 5MOA dot. Sitting on a C&H Precision adaptor plate- which is pricy but far superior to the factory glock mounting kit. I also dropped a set of Trijicon irons I had on there. Sometimes they can help find the dot a fraction of a second faster - but I will not ise them for shooting.
I took the gun across Florida to the best Glock Trigger guy in the Business. I brought my old open gun and he made this trigger even sharper than that one. So Johnny Glock race trigger & I am looking forward to really dialing it in over time.
Last I sent the frame back to Dallas to my favorite gunsmith- Triarc Systems. They worked the frame over made a few adjustments and coated the grip with Silicon Carbide- its like grabbing really aggressive sandpaper & it is awesome.
All in- about $1,700.
The good news is I don?t need a new rig, all my old mags work & the learning curve should be short as I was already running a Gen3 Glock 34 in Open.

hope you know what you're doing with that sandpaper grip, you might get rubbed raw & sore after a few boxes of ammo...
congrats on the trigger, makes a huge difference & the most difference. I'd spare no expense on that.
if you had a Gen3 you could get an aftermarket spring pack for your RSA and tweak the muzzle flip with much effect. (recoil has different character too) but you can't do that with a stock Gen4/5... if you're that serious ($1700 serious) you might look into getting an adapter kit to investigate what that kind of tweaking can do for you. or at least try it on your Gen3 and if it pans out, get an adapter kit and do the same thing to the Gen5. can use the same springs that worked in the Gen3 don't have to buy those twice. (except the weight of the MOS might change that slightly)
do you think the G34 really is better handling than a G17? some say it is, some say not so much, I tried a G23 and G22 side-by-side myself and saw a definite difference, so it makes me wonder if a G35 slide would be that much better.0 -

I have a 23 and a 35 and the 35 is much easier to control than the 23. That extra weight out front and the slightly longer grip area make it a lot easier to control. The longer sight radius is also a big plus. YMMV.0 -

Obviously not something one would actually CARRY.
Even smooth grips eat up clothing and vehicle seats like crazy.0 -

Welcome to GB.
That is not a gas pedal & as such falls under 21.2a and this exact gun has passed inspection from Troy McManus himself.
21.2a applies to the frame.
21.4 applies to THE GRIPS.

I hope you keep posting. Not only is it nice to have some new blood, but having another (obviously) knowledgable shooter here is always welcome.

21.4 is supposed to be about Grips but...
•Grip modifications such as, but not limited to, undercutting/smoothing the trigger guard, adding or removing finger grooves, or adding stippling, grip tape, or checkering are specifically allowed.
•Grips may not be modified to create a thumb rest or beavertail.
Notice the reference to “trigger guard undercutting” in the Grips section, which is clearly a frame modification for most pistols. Half of the entire section is written to sound like it refers to the Frame not the removable Grips. What gun has a trigger guard as part of the removable grips? Unless you’re considering a P320 a grip and a Glock a frame. So if that’s the case then the same thumb rest cut is legal on a Glock Frame but not on a P320 Grip? Even their own rule book seems to mix up Grips and Frames.
I’ve seen someone at a local level match get moved to Open for that cut, so who knows.
Here’s my G45 build for Carry Optics. Haven’t done the grip mods yet. Building an identical G34 for Production.

My G-34 gen-5 is amazing. I wish to hell I could stop calling it a G35 but , alas my aging mind messes up numbers more often now. After the simple installation of the Johnny Glock Match Trigger it became a really accurate shooter rivaling the Madore 1911 sold to me by Perry shooter. You guys in your 20's-50's can move quicker and acquire sight pictures faster but us old coots like the red dot optics and the reduced recoil, faster recovery of the 9MM. I shoot 5-6K rounds of each a year but can see the time when the 9MM is going to be the go to gun. The Glock, with a good trigger is a better gun for any shooting situation I could foresee.Your mods make me drool...

First- Im happy to have another USPSA shooter on GB. These guys are my family, but we have different interests in shooting.
So thanks for the discussion. I like your 45 with that Zev slide.
If I was at a club match with no classifier, and they were hung up, I would shoot open and move on- probably not go back.
If I was at a club match with a classifier- I would inform the match director I will shoot open but intend to contact USPSA to request a correction to the classifier and would be citing rule 21.2A “slide & frame”
At a sectional or nationals this wouldn’t even be a conversation.
For context - At the end of the day, I have 3 boys and their hobbies come before mine. I love shooting and I want USPSA to grow and as an RO I want people to have a good experience.
I am not a GM and there is no real money on the line.
I am a USPSA RO, and I know for a fact Troy would agree with the above.
I will say, per Glock GSSF rules this gun had to shoot in the “unlimited” division- but anything with a dot would.
