    Okay seeing as how this fine gun is on my list...

    You are now on my other list for having this amazing Marlin with microgroove rifling in .256 - in its non traditional levermatic lever gun configuration...

    I have always lusted after this rifle - it's a gentleman's restored truck gun - where the seat cover has an integral gun sleeve hanging from the forward bottom edge of the vinyl bench seat...

    The corresponding sleeve hanging from the rear edge of the front seat / being the bench contains a pump or lever or bolt action .410 gauge shotgun as a companion piece...

    Damn if I wouldn't put a scope on it or a red dot or holo sight or Williams bright neon day glow fluorescent orange hi vis fiber optic fire sight set..

    I bet it's the bees knees at 100 yds with double end target wadcutters from a sand bagged bench rest..

    Is there a .22 rem jet revolver in the glove box???

    I wonder how a nice feathered crotch wood birds eye maple stock would look on that levermatic.

    +P carbine only hand loads - cast lead with some antimony and a gas check or even FMJ HPBT's...

    Wait am I obligated to get a colt SAA clone revolver in .256 now - a ruger perhaps..

    Sigh.

    Way back in the mid 60's(?), I wanted one of those SOOO bad. Local hardware store had ordered the wrong caliber and just wanted to recover their cost. Dad said "NO" cause the ammo was too expensive.

    ;) I feel your pain...

    I had the chance to pick up a Marlin model 336 lever action rifle with octagonal bbl and deluxe wood - Lyman peep sight - chambered in .219 zipper for pennies on the dollar...

    I passed because the ammo was unfamiliar and hard to locate and super expensive...

    I had less than a dozen guns at the time and was not cognizant of many truths.

    I still greatly regret passing on it.

    Hammer enclosed in the receiver...

    Detachable box magazine is typical but not exclusive...

    22 groove right hand concentric twist proprietary microgroove rifling system (exclusive to the .256 Winchester magnum center-fire cartridge - specially strengthened receivers)

    Early production pre-64 variants can be identified by the lack of readily detachable swivels...

    1966 saw the introduction of the .30 cal US carbine chambering...

    23.25" bbl length is typical - approx 6.95 lbs empty weight...

    Western auto supply rimfire variants have some collectors interest...

    Referred to as a sporting rifle and not a carbine or short rifle...

    While 100 year anniversary medallions may be encountered these were not incorporated on the production line - all 1970 production long guns received a medallion - but they were also sold separately and it's not uncommon to see them retrofitted or installed on older guns...

    About 3 weeks ago I was watching one of these, on the auction side, chambered in .22mag. It went for more than I could go.

    This one would be nice to have too. (see Rocky, I used too correctly)

    That?s a beautiful gun. Note the fit and finish, and quality of materials.
    It?s no wonder many of us are drawn to the guns of that era.
