What make and model 'backup' gun did/do you carry? Why did you choose that one?

Back in the 1990s, I chose a backup pistol to wear in a body armor holster under my shirt.
Dept. regulations dictated that the caliber had to be a minimum of .380 ACP, and that the pistol had to be double action.
At that time, the absolute smallest, lightest pistol I could find that fit our policy was the Colt Pony Pocketlite, and I got myself one. I had to shoot it regularly in qualification, and it was reasonably accurate and 100% reliable. The trigger pull was pretty heavy though.
I still have the pistol.
There is a greater selection today, with several even smaller and lighter than the Colt. Ruger, Kel-Tec, Kahr, and so on.0
