Accu-Strut / Mini 14

Anyone have any experience with the Accu-strut barrel stabilizer for the mini 14 ?

    being a machinist i saw the concept of a strut, and made one out of alu,omi. bar stock and mild stee round stock. i had a 181 series mini 14 that had at best a 6 inch[5 shot] group @ 100 yards and tightened it up to a 2 inch group this solved the stringing problem somewhat the mini 14 had with barrel heatup and verticle rising the early models were notorious for. later models changed the barrel shape and cut down the stringing. but i can't confirm that

    I bought some clamps that hold a steel rod and also accessories. Its different but works. Get something, they work well.

    Accu-strut also makes a 4" socom that looks great, more like an M14 but it does little to improve accuracy in the Mini 14.

    In the beginning I thought of getting a new barrel installed instead of doing a half ass patch work like the "strut". Having paid about $500 for the mini I couldn't drop that kind a money for that job. So I figured fist sized accuracy was good enough. But these days with new minis going close to a grand (I hope the accuracy improved for that kind a money). I suppose dropping $800 for accurizing a Mini don't seem too bad :lol: .

    Talk about ?hole in the water? trying to accurize a mini!? Put a 12? paper plater up at 100 yds. Shoot a magazine at it, slow fire. If most of you brass lands in a hula hoop size pattern, you have an accurate mini, and shouldn?t mess with it!

    I thought the strut was installed so myopic French gendarme might be fooled into believing it's an upgraded M1 Garand or a BMP 59 or Springfield socom at a glance - blurred vision and cheap swill French wine now seeing a superior rifle...

    The cost of the strut is only $155. I'm into the mini 14 cheap ( traded a .22 saddle gun for it, had $300. in the .22) so I don't mind putting a little cash into it. You just can't get too serious about it as it's impossible to make a mini 14 into a tack driver but the strut will improve the groups by about 50% give or take some.
