Softball

Used to be a big thing around here from the mid ?70?s to mid ?90?s. Men?s teams, women?s leagues, church leagues.
Seems like it disappeared all of a sudden in the mid ?90?s.
Any of you folks play?

    We used to have a good girls fast pitch team.
    I know a solid girl who is about 5?7 220 lbs and can fast pitch a softball like it?s shot out of a gun. I miss watching it.

    summer and fall of '74 played fast pitch on a traveling team, and slow pitch on a local tournament team. 143 games played that year. blew my shoulder out late september, rotator cuff. that did it. done. never played either since

    just talking about that the other day, we had 3 different field complexes around town, all are closed now and weeds as high as the fence, back in the day you couldn't find a empty field to practice on as most had games/leagues playing every evening. I blame the video games and cell phones, you just don't see kids out playing in the yards anymore, that and the fact you have to have two winners at every game anymore, you can't tell a kid they lost....

    I personally love softball. However after cancer with the surgeries chemo and radiation i just cant play at the level i want.

    Throw in having my knees replaced its that much harder.

    I still play with my grandkids.

    I love girls fast pitch softball and coached my daughter all through grade school and high school. Some great athletes and some real fun times!
    We used to play 16 inch softball (Slow pitch) around here. The "Clincher"! No gloves and a great game to play!
    My son plays 16" in Austin, Tx when they have the "Chicago meet ups"........I have to send him Clinchers every couple of years! They can be tough to find outside Chicago area.

    Thats right, he could pitch better from second base than most could from the mound. His arms were actually different sizes.
